But I don’t stop squirming, trying in vain to get away from him.

All it seems to do is piss him off more.

“Stopfucking struggling, Irelynn!” William pulls me toward him, then slams me into the wall, knocking the wind out of me. A sharp pain shoots through me, making me feel dizzy. Terror courses through my veins, immobilizing me.

He leans his body into me, his legs pinning mine so that I can’t attempt to kick him again.

Panic surges through me, dread leaving a sour taste in my mouth. Tears fill my eyes from pain and anguish and my chin trembles. “Please, William, just let me go,” I beg.

He shakes his head. Pinning my wrists against the wall, his eyes leering over my body. Goosebumps erupt all over my skin as the cold, clammy hands of fear grip my spine.

I open my mouth to scream for help, but he’s too fast, his hand clamping over it. ”Stop.Fucking.Resisting,” William seethes, his voice shaking with rage. My terrified gaze takes in his corded neck and flared nostrils. His lips curl in a venomous sneer and there’s a threatening glint in his blue eyes. “You’ll only make thisworseif you scream.” He slowly removes his hand from my mouth.

His face shifts, desire heavy on his face as his lips part, his eyes glossing over. His long, pale finger lifts to my face, slowly sliding down my cheek. He ducks his head, moving closer to my neck, inhaling deeply. “I’ve missed you, Irelynn.”

Turning my head away, I squeeze my eyes shut, breathing through the nausea that swirls inside me. “William, please, just let me go.” My voice shakes and I swallow hard. My head slowly turns to his, my eyes opening, searching his, waiting for an answer.

William gives me a malevolent smile. “No, Irelynn. I can’t let you go.” His hand trails reverently down to my chin, then to my throat. “Not ever.”

I can’t take it anymore. I’m trying so hard not to let the memories overwhelm me, but there’s no escaping it. My mind yields to it, engulfed by the horror ofthat night.

The night my innocence was stolen from me.

My breaths rasp from my lungs and terror makes my body tremor. I shake my head, in denial that he’s here and I’m reliving this shit all over again. My pulse races, thundering against my ears.

From somewhere deep within, a voice urges me to fight, to scream for help.

Taking a deep breath, I force the terror to abate. Squeezing my hands into fists, I steel my spine, gathering every bit of strength in my body.

“Help!” I scream as loud as I can. The sun goes behind the clouds and there is a drop in temperature, casting gloomy shadows over us, making William appear even more threatening. The hair stands up on the back of my neck as goosebumps trail down my skin.

William freezes temporarily, his head pivoting around, searching the sidewalk. Seeing no one, he turns back to me, his face scarlet with rage. His nostrils flare and he bares his teeth at me. Wrapping his hand around my throat, he applies enough pressure to scare me, but not completely cut off my airway. Not yet.

My hands wrap around his forearms, pushing against him, trying to break his hold around my neck.

“I told you not to fucking scream!” William’s voice is an animalistic roar.”Now you will—”

Suddenly, William’s words are cut off as he’s yanked away from me, his weight no longer pressing into me, his hand no longer wrapped around my throat. I greedily suck in air, bending forward slightly, my hands rubbing my neck lightly.

What is happening? My head lifts and my wide eyes lock with a tall, muscular, extremely handsome guy. His honey blond hair appears darker in the shadows of the building; his baby blues staring at me intently.

Amidst all the terror coursing through me, the second my eyes meet his, warmth and safety suffuse through my body. My muscles begin to uncoil, like a snake that stretches out along a trail once the danger has passed. My heartbeat was thrashing in my ears like a drum but is now steadily beating as the stranger continues assessing me. And my breath that was heaving out of my lungs as though I were running a race, now hitches inside my chest as I stare at his handsome face, completely forgetting the danger that I’m in.

Although he’s dressed in regular clothes, he is a superhero in my eyes. My own personal savior, willing to put himself in harm’s way, just to rescue me.

I sag against the building, relief filling my body as I stare at him, standing protectively in front of me. He’s like a huge bear, poised to fight. His muscles flex, preparing for an attack.

The stranger spins around, facing William. His fists are clenched at his sides. ”You need to get the fuck out of here and leave her the hell alone.” His tone is gravelly and threatening. The taut muscles of his back strain against his gray, form-fitting t-shirt. He limbers his shoulders and neck as if he’s preparing for a fight.

Wow. Who the hell is this guy?

I’ve never seen him on campus, and I sure as hell would have remembered him.

My eyes trail over the stranger’s backside, studying his body again.

Why can’t I stop staring at this guy?

He’s tall, probably around six feet, and wide, his muscular back narrowing into a tapered waist. His dark blue jeans hug his muscular ass and curve around his powerful hamstrings and calves. The guy definitely lifts heavy things and puts them down.
