I’ve never been to Darin’s garage, but I found the address on Google and put it into my GPS. As I pull up to the front of the building, my gaze scans over the open garage door. Max’s back is to me as he squats beside a motorcycle, turning a wrench. Sucking in a breath, I watch his sinewy muscles shift and move as he works on the motorcycle, his shirt clinging to his broad back.

My heart races inside my chest as I open my door, grabbing the donuts and the container of coffee. As I shut my door, a guy walks over to Max, leaning down and saying something to him. Max turns his head, his eyes locking with mine. He looks surprised, but then a broad smile splits his face. Dropping his wrench, he stands, a broad smile on his face.

I hurry toward him, meeting him in the garage doorway. Max plucks the coffees from my hands, then the donuts, handing them to the guy who followed behind him, which I assume is Darin. He turns and wraps his arms around me, pulling me against his chest.

Inhaling him as I wrap my arms around his back, the smell of his oatmeal body wash, combined with woodsy scent, instantly calms and soothes me.

My horrible morning disappears, all thoughts of William and the terror he inflicted on me erased.

Pulling back, Max’s lips cover mine, giving me a long, passionate kiss, his hands cupping my face. I smell the grease on his hands and know he’s getting it on my face, but when his lips are on mine, I don’t care about anything else.

“Jesus, Max, let the girl breathe,” a voice says from behind him.

Max pulls back, chuckling, his gaze roving over me.

“Hello, beautiful. Damn, you are a sight for sore eyes.” He grins. “I’m gonna need to clean the grease from your face, baby.” He interlocks his fingers with mine.

Nodding his head to the guy behind him, Max rolls his eyes. “Ignore this asshole. His name is Darin, but you can call him asshole. I do.” He throws a grin over his shoulder at Darin. “This is Irelynn.”

Darin laughs and extends his hand toward me. “Don’t worry, I don’t have grease on my hand.” He shoots a look at Max. “I kind of figured when you wrapped around her like some python and practically sucked her lips off her face.” His gaze moves to mine and he grins. “Hi, Irelynn. Pleasure to meet you. Ignore whatever this jackass tells you about me. I’m the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.” He looks over at Max, then at me, and says in a loud whisper, “Max just insults me because my dick is bigger than his.”

I can’t help the blush that heats my cheeks. My gaze flits to Max, who looks at me, shaking his head. He leans closer to my ear and says, “And you think Vanessa is inappropriate?” He rolls his eyes at Darin. “You wish, asshole.”

Laughing, I shake my head. I like Darin already. As I take in his dark brown hair, piercing green eyes, and tall, muscular build, an image of Vanessa comes to mind.

Yup, she’d definitely find him attractive. And so far, he seems nice and has a great sense of humor.

Darin holds up the coffee and donuts. “Is this for us?”

“Well, one of those coffees is mine,” I point toward the frozen mocha. “But the other two are for you and Max. I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I got you a hot coffee and asked for cream and sugar on the side, which is in that small bag between the coffees.”

“Beautiful, you didn’t have to go to all this trouble.” Max grabs my hand, squeezing it.

I shake my head at Max. “It was no trouble at all.”And you have no idea how much I needed to see you.My grin widens. “And it gave me a chance to surprise you.”

He chuckles. “I gotta admit, this is unexpected. I didn’t think you’d show up here this morning.” He pulls me closer, kissing the top of my head. “But I’m damned glad you did.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Darin waves a hand dismissively, rolling his eyes. “Let me sum this up. He’s glad you’re here, missed you like crazy, you’re all he’s talked about all morning.” Darin gives me a huge grin. “Now, back to the food. Are the donuts up for grabs?”

My stomach rumbles, causing Max and me to laugh. “Yes, but I call dibs on one of the chocolate frosted donuts.”

Max shakes his head. “Darin is such an impatient asshole.”

Darin rolls his eyes. “I focus on the important things in life. Like free food.” He winks at me.

I squeeze Max’s hand as we follow behind Darin, who leads us into their break room. He sits the coffee and donuts in the center of a table. Max immediately grabs a towel and runs it under the sink to make it wet. He turns to me, wiping at the grease on my face, a small smile curling up his lips.

I stare at him as he focuses on wiping my face, then his baby blues lock on mine. How the hell does even the smallest of moments with him seem so intimate?

Max leads me to the table, holding out a chair for me. Once I’m seated, he pushes it in, then reaches over and grabs my coffee from the cup holder, handing it to me with a smile. Sticking my straw in the cup, he leans over my shoulder and gives me a quick kiss.

Darin makes his coffee, watching us, a smile on his face as he focuses mostly on Max.

Max goes over to the sink and washes his hands, before returning and opening the box of donuts. He immediately fishes out a chocolate frosted one, putting it on one of the plates he had swiped from the counter above the sink. He slides it to me, then hands a plate to Darin.

“Does this mean you have the hots for me like you do her?” Darin jokes, his green eyes sparkling.

“You wish, jackass.” Max grins, grabbing his coffee and a donut.
