Blowing out a heavy sigh, I change the subject. “Where’s Lo—Willow. The new girl?”

“She should be coming out any second.” Jamie tosses his hand into his blazer pocket, glancing back at the double doors. “The teacher stopped her for a quick chat.”

I smile.

“She’s nice, Camdyn.”

I stare into eyes the same blue-green color as my own and wait. Jamie has more to say. Hesitant, he forks a hand through his dirty blond hair. His doesn’t have the red tinge like Leith’s and mine.

“Of course, she’s nice,” I laugh softly.

In a low, cryptic tone, he says, “Then leave her alone.”

Head to the ground, Jamie watches his steps or counts rocks—who knows—while stalking off through the crowd.

I stare after him. Jesus, he’s the only person I pray for these days. Chewing my lip, I stop myself from going after him. He’s sixteen now. Fuck it. All the students are afraid to touch him. A few minutes later, there’s still no sign of Willow. I glance over my shoulder to see where Jamie went. He’s getting into a navy-blue SUV. My mom will set aside everything to pick him up, even squeezing it in between my other little siblings, who are in middle and elementary school. A few cars down at the pick-up area is my pawn. My lovely Lolo climbs into the passenger side of an old, gray Chevy Blazer. As if sensing the fucking daggers I’m tossing into her round ass, Willow glances over her shoulder. She freezes. Lips twitching into a smile, I lift my chin and swagger over.
