A few years ago, she realized how good she was at rock-climbing after the many attempts to get her on the wall and I convinced her to help me with the groups. She’s a natural at talking with people, especially the kids nervous about climbing.

“Yes, please come, Kellen. You’ll love it.” Scarlett beams up at him while I internally cheer at the mask of sheer terror on his face. Rowan chuckles beside me.

“Uh, I will have to, uh, look at my schedule and see if I can swing it.” He gulps, adjusting his reflective vest at the collar.

“Are you afraid of heights?” I inquire. “Because if so, we have a smaller wall. Sort of like a bunny slope in skiing but for beginner wall climbers.” I smirk when he struggles to keep the green from shading his entire face.

“No, I’m good. Count me in. See you later, babe. I’ll text you for details.” A quick hug and he slaps on his hardhat before retreating.

Babe? Oh, fuck no. He does not get to call her that. It’s been one date.

“Was it me, or did he look like he was going to get sick when you mentioned the wall?” Scarlett pulls at her lips, as if she’s unsure about the whole thing.

Forcing down the innate urge to wish the guy a serious case of norovirus, I say, “Naw, he looked fine. It’ll be fun. I mean, if you plan on going on more dates with him, he needs to at least take part in the things you like to do as well.” I lift a shoulder in a shrug, pretending as if I don’t want to throttle him into another dimension.

“Why do I get the feeling you’re goading him?” Her narrowed eyes make me laugh. “See?” Her finger waggles in my face. “You’re wearing that smug smile. You’re up to something fishy.”

Holding up my hands in an innocent gesture, I huff out, “I’m wounded, Scar.”

She rolls her sapphire blue orbs at me and turns to Rowan. “You should come too.”

Rowan grins, her pearly white teeth blinding against her brown skin. “I wouldn’t miss this. See you tomorrow, Grey. Nice to meet you again, Scarlett.” She gives my arm a quick squeeze before leaving.

Oh, this ought to be entertaining. It’s completely childish, but I hope the man doesn’t chicken out and can handle being out-climbed by the best friend. If he wants any solid chance with her, he’s going to have to face his fear because SoS is a big part of her life and mine. Whether or not he likes it, I come as a packaged deal with Scarlett Rhodes.
