“But—”

“It won’t happen again,” he said in a cold, ‘I am the law’ voice.

They dressed in silence, and she found herself uncomfortable and somehow…off balance. Weird. Shaky and edgy in a way that made her irritable.

When Hawk gently helped her into her shoes, she couldn’t stop herself from saying, “So, that’s it? No more kinky sex because you’re afraid of really fucking the sick girl like she wants?”

He recoiled as if she’d slapped him, and the shock on his face made her feel instantly contrite. “That’s not how it is. You are sick, and I don’t want to hurt you. Why does that make me a bad guy?”

“Because you just took what had been one of the most amazing experiences of my life and shit all over it.”

“What are you talking about?”

Her anger overwhelmed her and she spat out, “While you were fucking me, I wasn’t the sick girl—someone to be pitied and treated like glass. I was me again.”

The fire left his dark eyes, and he gathered her into his arms. “Sunny, I’m sorry. I didn’t…I didn’t mean to make you feel that way.”

Taking a deep breath, she tried to release some of the negative emotions bringing her down. “I’m sorry. I just feel…off.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?” Hawk asked carefully.

“No, it’s not that kind of off…just…bummed out I guess.”

After she explained her feelings to him in a long, confusing ramble, he nodded in understanding.

“Sub drop,” he explained as he hugged her close. “Come on, I have a room waiting for us.”

“We’re spending the night?”

“Yeah.” He gave her a tight smile as he tried to lighten the mood, “You’re not the only one whose having trouble walking. I came so hard, I nearly blacked out.”

She could help but feel a little smug.

“Well, we wouldn’t want you to crash on the way home. Lead the way.”

Hawk slipped her hand into his then gave her a kiss. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For everything. You’re amazing.”

“You aren’t so bad yourself.”

They left the room together. When they came out, they found Cami, one of the people that worked for Club Wicked, waiting near the door. Dressed in a sweet, frilly pink dress with her hair in pigtails, she was too cute for words and a good friend of Sunny’s.

“Excuse me, Master Hawk. I have a message for Sunny.”

He raised his brows. “What is it?”

“Ms Anya would like me to inform Ms Sunny that, since you’re spending the night, they’ll expect to see her at ten in the morning tomorrow for brunch in the Ladies’ Parlor.” She gave a little wince as she added, “And Ms Kira said to tell Ms Sunny that, if she doesn’t show, Ms Kira will hunt her down.”

“How did they know I was spending the night?” Sunny asked.

Hawk sighed and rolled his eyes. “With those three, who knows? Do you want to have brunch with them tomorrow? You don’t have to.”

“No, no. Anya will kill me if I don’t talk wedding stuff with her and I need to speak with Lucia. Since, you know, we’re getting married this weekend.”

“You’re getting married this weekend!” Cami let out a little peep of excitement and clapped her hands together before regaining her composure. “I’m sorry, Master Hawk. I’m just so super excited for you both! You’re such a great couple, and I’m so happy for you.”

“Forgiven,” he said with a small smile. “I’m a little excited myself.”

After they left a beaming Cami, they were quiet again as Hawk led them to a small elevator, then up to their rooms on the fourth floor.

The long hallway to their room was decorated with lavish excess, like something that would belong in a French palace.

Club Wicked had an entire wing of guest rooms for people who partied a little too hard to drive home for the night. Sure, most members had their own chauffeurs, but many enjoyed spending an evening in the luxurious accommodations of the club. Their room was done in pale blue tones complimented by white gold embellishments on the ornate furniture and a massive canopied bed. Thick, cream colored carpet covered the floor and an antique looking marble fireplace warmed the room with a real fire burning in the hearth.

Two high backed white brocade chairs sat before the fireplace. On a low table between them, a big silver domed tray she recognized from the club’s kitchens awaited them.

Hawk knelt before her and helped her out of her heels, then leaned forward and placed a series of gentle kisses on the sensitive skin behind her knees.

When he stood, his expression was incredibly tender. “Come on, I have a bath waiting for you.”

“For me? I’d much rather take a bath with you.”

“You will, but first indulge me. Let me pamper you.”

“Well, if you insist,” she said with a small smile. “You know, you’re going to spoil me and turn me into a brat for real.”
