“You probably shouldn’t—” Bodhi pauses when I pop the last of the cookie in my mouth, then sighs as he finishes what he was saying. “—eat the whole thing. Well, what’s done is done. Everyone, bow your heads and pray.”

“Come on, I’m sure it will be fine.” I laugh, grabbing another cookie when no one is looking, because these things arereallydelicious. “Danny finally ate one of the brownies you dropped off the other day, and she was fine. She ate like ten bowls of cereal and didn’t stop talking for two hours, but other than that, she painted like normal, made dinner like normal, and we put together Legos and watched a movie like normal. She was calm and happy. I want to be calm and happy.”

I mean, I already am happy. So happy I could cry. But some peace and serenity would be nice, instead of getting a boner every time I think about Danny, and my chest hurting every time I think about how freaking in love with her I am, worried that she doesn’t feel the same.

“How do you feel?” Palmer asks, while everyone at the table looks at me like I’m an animal in a zoo, and they’re waiting for me to do something fun… or horrifying.

“I’m fine.”

Ninety-minutes later…

“How are youfeeling there, buddy?”

“Please take me to the emergency room. Oooh, Cheetos! Hey, where are my pants? Pants is a funny word….”
