“Theron…” I say as he takes my hand and helps me off the ATV because my legs are struggling to move on their own.

“It was too quiet in Marta’s house without you there. This kept me sane.”

“Surely this is on someone else’s land.”

Theron shakes his head. “This is all part of Boone and Marta’s property. They sold it to me cheap. I used my portion of the sale of the farm to pay for the rest.”

“This is great, Theron. Finally, you have a place of your own.”

My breath catches in my throat as Theron drops to one knee beside me, looks up as he takes my hand, and says, “I’d much rather share it with you.” He reaches in his pocket and takes out a little white jewelry box, and flips the lid to reveal the sweetest little princess cut diamond on a thin gold band. “I love you, Skye Cunningham. I want to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much.” He plucks the ring from the box and I clutch my chest as he slips it on my finger. “Will you marry me, city girl?”

With excitement bubbling under my skin, I squeal a high-pitched, “yes,” that echoes off the trees.

Theron pops up, grabs me around my waist and spins us around before tumbling over onto the grass.

We just laugh and allow our limbs to tangle.

“It still feels like a dream,” I tell him when our laughter calms and he holds me close as we look at the sky glowing orange with the setting sun.

“Believe it, city girl. This is all real. And it’s all for you.”

“For us,” I correct him and he smiles rolling me onto my back on the soft, cool grass.

With his lips brushing mine, he says, “Forever.”

“Forever is a long time.”

Theron kisses me deeply. When he breaks away, he says, as truthfully and assuredly as he’s ever said it, “Wild horses, city girl. Even after we die. Nothing will keep me away from you.”
