Her rejection wouldn't have hurt as badly if he hadn't admitted to himself he cared about her. If he'd just stuck to this being a random hook up. If he hadn't wanted more.

"Hey," she said sitting up next to him. "It's not that I don't want to. Shit. I've wanted to from the second you called me Blondie. Even though I hated it. But… Oh, I really shouldn't say this…" She paused a moment running her fingers through her hair half a dozen times or so gathering it on top of her head before wrapping a thin black band around it. "But, since you're not going to remember it in the morning, what the hell, right?"

Isaac fought hard with his drunk addled brain. Begged it to remember whatever it was she was about to say…

Chapter 6

"But that's the thing about getting blackout drunk. You fucking blackout," Jake said sitting next to him at the island in the middle of the kitchen after Isaac finished recounting his night with Blondie.

Yeah. Still no real name.

And he'd woken up alone again. But without having had sex with her. Which was a nice change that seemed to validate the gut feeling he'd had about her. Proved she was different.

Jake had tested him. Thought it was impossible for him to know for sure but he did. His body never forgot a woman he'd fucked. No matter how drunk he got, sex lingered.

"There are bits and pieces," Isaac said. His brain ached trying to recall anything after Blondie helped him to his room. "If I could just put them together."

Isaac smashed a slice of banana into his cinnamon oatmeal.

"You're wasting your time. You blacked out. There's no coming back from that."

Isaac shifted his memory to the portion of the night before he'd started drinking. To the moment he’d first felt the need to drink.

Blondie's friend. That wink.

Then what happened?

"You talked to her friend." Isaac pointed an accusatory spoon at Jake.

"I struck out with her friend," Jake reminded him. "No number. No last name. Nothing."

Isaac slumped in his seat. They'd both struck out last night.

Go Tau Gamma Psi…

Regret sat heavily in Isaac's stomach alongside the sick still trying to find its way up his esophagus. Last night would be the last time he let fear or any other emotion drive him to drink like that. But that fear had been so strong. It had wanted him to run away. The alcohol had made him stupid enough to stay with her.

He didn't want to be afraid anymore. He wanted to know who she was and why his gut was so sure of her. Because he’d still woken up alone. Why had she left without giving him a way to find her if she was different? Didn't that prove she was the same as the others? Except she hadn't had sex with him before she abandoned him. Was that better or worse? He'd go mad before he found an answer. Unless…

"I'm going to find her."

"How? You know nothing about her except she goes to school here. Actually, do you even know that for sure?"

He didn't. Except…

"Professor Poopface," Isaac blurted out.

Jake sputtered. Clapping his hand over his mouth to keep in his cereal. "What?" he asked after swallowing.

"After we got to my room, I remember her talking about a project and a Professor Poopface."

"Don't get too excited. Pretty sure that's not their real name."

"No but it confirms she's a student, doesn't it?"

Jake shrugged. "Sure."

"And we can be sure she's not in a sorority."
