Katie shoved her phone back in her bag. At the same time, she shoved all her feelings as far down into the deepest recesses of her mind as possible.

Nothing would get in her way. She couldn't—wouldn't let anything or anyonedistract her anymore.

But no matter what she told herself, she fought to hear every word of that lecture. Her ears still ringing with Muscles words, "I want to see you again."

Not anymore. She'd ruined it. So why couldn't she get him out of her head?

As her professor wrapped up his lecture, Katie took her phone out again. She sent Amber a message.

Katie: Can't meet after class. Have to get back to work right away.

Amber: But I leave tomorrow.

Katie: I know. I'm sorry. I'm already too far behind.

Amber: Will you at least come say goodbye before I go?

Professor Poopface dismissed the class. Katie got out of there as fast as she could. Heading toward the bus stop that would take her back to her dorm.

Amber: Are you seriously just going to ghost me?

Katie stood at the bus stop reading Amber's message.

Katie: Sorry. Was on my way to the bus stop. You know I can't text and walk.

Amber: True.

Katie: Well? Tomorrow? You'll be there, right?

Katie sighed. Worrying when she saw Amber she wouldn't be able to contain her emotions. Amber wouldn't have time to deal with her bullshit when she had a plane to catch. And what kind of a shitty friend would Katie be if she dumped that on her before she left and couldn't do anything to help? It would be different if Katie was going with her.

Suck it up. You made your choice. Get over it and get back to work.

Katie: I'll be there.

Chapter 9

Less than twenty-four hours after Blondie stomped on his heart, Isaac lay in his bed well after his alarm went off with a pounding headache. Served him right for staying up until almost four in the morning thinking about her.

She didn't want him. Not for one night. Not even for a cup of coffee.

These obsessive thoughts had to stop. She didn't want him. Why should he want her?

"Isaac, I'm going to get breakfast at the student union, you coming?" Jake asked appearing in his bedroom door. "Holy shit, dude. You okay?"

Isaac desperately wanted to join him. The fact was, he felt like garbage. From Jake's wide-eyed greeting, he must have looked like garbage too. And since they were leaving for spring break tomorrow, he needed to be at his best.

"My head is killing me," Isaac muttered. "I think I'm going to skip morning classes. Get a few more hours of sleep."

Jake took a cautious step forward. "Maybe you should go to the campus clinic."

Deep down Isaac knew he should tell Jake to keep his distance but he couldn't bear to admit it. "It's just a stress headache." Or in fact, heartbreak. But he couldn't tell him that. The way Jake looked up to him, the guy’s heart would break if Isaac admitted he got shot down. "I'll take the morning easy and see you for lunch."

Jake's jaw twitched pressing his lips into a thin line. He didn't look convinced but agreed and left Isaac to sleep—to be ready for spring break and to forget all about Blondie.

Chapter 10

"Istill can't believe you're not coming." Amber tossed her suitcase into the back of her light blue Mini Cooper.
