Katie finished piling her groceries in the backseat of her car.

Forget him.Be happy you avoided letting a guy get in the way of your goals.

On the way back to her dorm, Katie comforted herself as she ran through her plan.

Finish the game.

She turned left onto the street.

Finish the term.

She entered Greek row.

Don't let a guy get in the way.

She stopped in front of the Tau Gamma Psi house.

Chapter 13

After waking up sicker than ever Monday morning, Isaac had dragged himself out of bed and kept his promise to Jake to go to the clinic. The doctor told him he didn't have that awful flu that had been going around, just a run of the mill virus he needed to let run its course. He'd most likely be better just in time to go back to class.

Great.

When he got back to the house, he'd hunkered down on the couch in front of the television where he stayed until someone knocked on the door. Hauling himself off the couch, Isaac shuffled his feet on his way to answer it.

"Can I help you?" he asked the two campus security officers.

"We got a call about a possible break-in?" The inquiring officer's question trailed off when his eyes drew a line across the Tau Gamma Psi letters on the front of Isaac's shirt.

"Just me. Left behind with the plague." Isaac barked a cough. Hellfire scorched his throat.

The officers stepped back.

"But you're welcome to have a look around."

They each took another step back. The second officer said, "The caller was obviously unaware any of you were still here. I don't think we need any more information than that."

The first officer agreed. "Sorry to disturb you."

Isaac waved shutting the door behind them as they practically ran off the porch. He'd have to remember the plague angle the next time the cops were called to one of their parties.

Nestled into the overstuffed couch, under his blanket, Isaac pushed play on the remote resuming his latest binge-watching session. Not five minutes in, they knocked again.

Too exhausted to get back up and answer it, Isaac risked further damage to his throat and called out, "What?"

A rush of spring air moved a tuft of his hair across his forehead. Spring air with a hint of…

That's not campus security.

Isaac sat up too fast. The blood rushed to his head bringing back the pounding ache. An ache soothed when he sawherstanding in the same spot he'd first seen her.

"Muscles?" she said, wide-eyed.

"Blondie."
