"You could get a few more hours in on your project too."

Isaac almost plowed Katie over she stopped so abruptly.

"Rule number one, when you're on spring break with me, no school talk."

"Sorry." He worried he'd ruined things already but the twinkle in her eye told him differently.

"I take my time off just as seriously as I do my work. When I'm off, I'm off."

His body relaxed. If she wasn't going to worry, he wouldn't either. "That's the last you'll hear from me on the subject.”

"Good." Katie sat on the couch pulling him down next to her. "Now. What should we watch?"

Chapter 23

Fuck.

Isaac was right. She should have worked on her project when he fell asleep again. Not that she needed to. She'd still meet her deadline but it wouldn't have hurt to ease the load a little more. All but guarantee she could hand it in day one.

However, if she'd left Isaac to do her work, she'd never have had the pleasure of being tucked between him and the back of the couch using his chest as a pillow while they watched her favorite show.

Over the hours, they'd eased into that position. From Isaac putting his arm around her to him nodding off after lunch. Finally, when Katie had nudged him to lay down, he took her with him. They hadn't moved since.

Katie's stomach grumbled.

Time for supper.

Katie surgically removed herself from Isaac's side leaving him undisturbed as she made her way to the kitchen.

She'd almost finished making them sandwiches when Isaac came through the door. "We should have a party."

"Good nap?" Katie asked pushing the plate with his sandwich over to him.

"Yes, thank you. And for this," he said picking up the sandwich.

The only sound in the room for several minutes came from the lettuce he crunched in each bite. Such a healthy appetite, he must have been feeling much better.

"A party, huh?" she asked when he'd finished eating and she'd finished making her own sandwich.

"Can't have spring break without a party. And you want spring break, so…"

"But there's no one to party with." Katie set a glass of water in front of him.

"Excuse me? No one?" he scoffed pointing a finger at his chest.

"You know what I mean."

He winked and butterflies tickled her insides reminding her of the night they met. She would have loved to recapture that night. But end it differently. Without the blacking out and running away.

"What's the plan?" she asked.

Isaac slammed his hand on the counter. "I challenge you." He lifted his hand revealing a single quarter.

"You want to play Quarters?"

"You scared?"

"For you, maybe." Katie smirked biting into her sandwich.
