Their time together had been full of mistakes and disappointment. Not anymore.

Isaac eased out of Katie's grip. After laying her head on one of the throw pillows, he grabbed the throw blanket he'd used when he fell asleep watching the show and covered her up.

Damn, she's beautiful.

Even with a thin stream of saliva dribbling from the corner of her mouth as she snored.

Isaac knelt down beside her. His heart fluttered with the desire to be close to her again. To feel her soft pouty lips on his.

He reached out with a crook in his index finger. He caught the drop of drool with his knuckle before it landed on the pillow and swept the pad of his thumb over her bottom lip. Then froze when her lips moved against his thumb to form his name.

That sealed the deal for him. He didn't need to wonder what they'd do anymore. They'd have fun, God damn it.

He leaned over her. Kissed her forehead gently before standing. Even if it only lasted four days.

Chapter 26

Katie woke up around noon the next day hungover and panicked. Enough break, she needed to get back to work.

Sitting up slowly, Katie held onto her head so it wouldn't spin off and make her vomit.

Once upright, Katie's heart warmed when she found the large glass of water, three ibuprofen, and a granola bar waiting for her on the coffee table.

It was still odd not doing all of these things for herself. Strange, being surprised to find he'd taken care of her without her having to ask. Like cooking her supper the night before.

As she washed down the pain killers and chomped on the granola bar, she even thought she could get used to it.

Chewing her last bite, Katie glanced at the table.

What's this?

Squinting, she picked up the handwritten note the granola bar and ibuprofen had been sitting on moments ago.

Under your pillow, you'll find a fully loaded pistol.

What?

Shaking and swallowing hard, Katie lifted her pillow. Underneath, she found a pistol—bright orange and full of water.

Her heart tripped over itself trying to stop the heart attack she'd almost had.

What the hell, Isaac?

She read the rest of the note.

I'll answer your questions…

Over my dead body.

Katie giggled at the note but her heart tore in two when she thought about having to ruin their fun to get back to work.

Shit.

It wasn't Isaac's fault he planned a game when she should have been working. And it sounded like a lot of fun. Sneaking around like an assassin.

Okay.

One game.
