"You better hurry. I'll have it ready in no time."

She flashed a toothy grin before hopping around and heading into the house.

If he hadn't already fallen for her he would have then.

Serious as she was when it came to her work—her plan—she knew how to have fun. And they had so much fun together.

He wanted more of it. Always.

How could she not see how good they were together now? How could she just leave and never want to see him again after this?

After all, she couldn't workallthe time. Why couldn't she spend her time off, even a little bit of it, with him?

He'd ask. He had to. But not yet. Not until the end. He wouldn't risk ruining whatever fun they had ahead of them by asking such a heavy question too soon.

Isaac's stomach growled.

He'd been up a bit longer than Katie and the oatmeal he'd eaten mid-morning was long gone.

Stripping off his shirt to keep mud from falling in the food, Isaac headed for the kitchen.

???

When Katie walked into the kitchen she about choked her breath caught so hard in her throat.

Isaac stood with his back to the stove. Frying pan in one hand, spatula in the other, and naked from the waist up except for an apron hanging from his neck. Quite possibly the sexiest thing she'd ever seen in her life.

"Enjoy," Isaac said pushing eggs onto the plate already piled with bacon. "I'm going to have that shower now."

The wordscan I comeplayed on her tongue for so long he’d left before she thought to say anything at all. She'd just stood there staring at him like an idiot.

While Katie ate, the day replayed in her head.

On top of him being incredibly hot, she'd never had as much fun as she’d had with Isaac. She loved the way they teased each other. Even when he was sick he'd entertained her with his stubbornness.

Katie rolled a bit of egg around on her plate.

If only she had the time to commit to him, she'd have told him how she felt. But telling him without being able to follow through would have only made it harder to say goodbye. And she had to say goodbye.

She popped the bit of egg into her mouth.

But not yet.

It was too late in the day and she was still too hungover to get any work done. There was no reason they couldn't have a bit more fun tonight before she had to say goodbye tomorrow.

So, after rinsing her plate and putting it in the dishwasher, Katie made her way to Isaac’s bedroom.

Chapter 28

Katie knocked on Isaac's door. A moment later, he opened it pulling a shirt down over his incredibly toned abs.

"I thought I'd meet you downstairs," he said.

"I got bored and didn't know how long you'd be. I was going to grab my phone while I waited. But you're done now, so…"

Oh, God. Had she always sounded this awkward? Or just since she decided to try to be more than a nursemaid to him?

"NowI'm done," he said after slapping some aftershave on his freshly shaved cheeks. The scent took Katie back to the night they met. The bright citrus and black pepper.Delicious.
