Isaac lifted his eyes looking into hers. "Blondie, I'd do everything I could to make all your days as good as this, if you'd let me."

"And I'd love to let you but duty calls. I have to get back to work in the morning. My game won't code itself."

Isaac reached across her chest picking up the alarm clock. "Is seven too early?"

"No. That's perfect."

He clicked the buttons then set the clock down again. "Good." He draped his arm over her ribs and tucked his hand between her back and the bed. "I'll make breakfast."

It might not have seemed like much but that little gesture—those few extra minutes she could put toward her project—meant the world to her. Especially after missing an entire day. A day she hoped she wouldn't regret because it truly had been one of the best days ever. In spite of getting sick.

Isaac pulled her in so close she could feel his heartbeat against her cheek.

Katie had only ever slept alone. She wasn't entirely sure she could fall asleep next to someone, distracted by their breathing being slightly out of sync from hers. Hearing the little noises his stomach made as it continued to digest the handful of marshmallows she'd reluctantly shared with him. But then his heart would beat against her cheek and she'd melt into him just a little bit more.

And though she knew she shouldn't, she couldn't stop thinking how easy it would be for her to get used to this. Because he'd made it easy.

Katie nuzzled her nose against his chest.

He made her want him and the relationship she couldn't have. He made her want to stay when she should go back to her dorm the second the alarm sounded the next morning.

Then she woke, after what might have been the best sleep she'd ever had.

"Morning," Katie said to a sleepy-faced Isaac after clicking off the alarm clock.

He lifted a hand to her cheek then lowered his lips to hers. "Morning." Either her morning breath wasn't as bad as she’d always thought or he didn't care as he came back claiming her mouth again.

Before things went too far and she went another day without working, Katie put a hand on his chest tilting her chin out of the kiss. "I'm going to hit the bathroom before I get started."

"Rude. What did the bathroom ever do to you?"

"Oh, no." Katie's head sunk further into the pillow. "You're amorningperson."

"What? No. Mornings suck."

"Don't lie. I can see it in your eyes and you quipped a dad joke. You're chipper." She pointed an accusing finger. "Morning person."

"So what? You are too."

They each got out of bed on their respective sides. Then each grabbed a corner of the covers and pulled them up over the pillows. "Not by choice. I'd sleep until noon every day if I didn't have so much shit to do."

Katie smoothed the covers with the palms of her hands. When she stood back admiring her work she caught Isaac smirking at her. "What?

"Is there anything you do that you don't give your full attention?"

"Anything worth doing is worth doing right. Otherwise, what's the point?"

"Like not just giving a run-of-the-mill blow job but going all-in with the deep throat, right?"

"And that's my cue." She turned on her heel, hot blood filling her cheeks. If she hadn't gotten out of there, she would have crawled right back into bed and gone all-in again. As she walked out, she kind of hoped he’d give her an excuse to turn back and do just that. But was relieved when he didn’t.

He knew his boundaries. And hers.

Which is why she didn’t worry about what would happen when she came back. He’d give her the space she needed. He wouldn’t get in her way.

This could work.
