"True."

"Plus, you'll make it up to me later."

"Also, true."

"I meant with dinner."

"Also, true." Isaac used the towel he'd cleaned her with to wipe his hand then strutted across the room to his closet and tossed it in his laundry basket.

Though she'd gained a lot of confidence with him, so much she was willing to try dating him, his confidence intimidated her. Because his confidence didn't come from her, it came from experience. He wasn't ashamed because the morning after wasn't anything new for him.

"Is there anywhere, in particular, you'd like to go tonight?" He turned to her standing next to the closet with a bath towel in each hand.

He handed one to her. She held it against her bare chest.

"Is something wrong?" He ran a hand along her arm.

As attentive as ever, this one.

"No. Still a little sleepy, maybe."

His eyes sparkled with what little light they caught from the closet beside him before he bent and kissed her fully—deeply on the mouth.

"Are you mad that I'm not sorry about that?" he asked resting his forehead on hers.

"No. This morning—last night—was all incredible."

"Tonight will be too." He kissed her again.

Wrapped in his arms, feeling him swell against her belly, brought her confidence back with a vengeance. She tilted her chin out of the kiss. "How so?" she asked. "You plan on taking me over the table at the restaurant?"

His pupils widened with that beastly darkness she loved so much. "I would if you asked me to." He nipped her bottom lip between his teeth.

"I'll keep that in mind," she said, breathless, coming out of another kiss. "But before all that, I need to get some work done."

Isaac brushed the tip of his nose against her cheek. "I'll bring your breakfast."

As Katie's heart swelled to the bursting point, she wrapped her arms around Isaac's ribs hugging him with her cheek firmly pressed against his chest.

With one hand on her back, the other on her head stroking her hair behind her ear, Isaac hugged her. Then kissed the top of her head and lay his cheek where his lips had been.

She loved that too.

Chapter 36

Around six in the evening, Katie raised her arms over her head and stretched her legs, stiff as boards over Isaac's lap. He'd been concerned about being too much of a distraction but Katie had insisted he sit with her as long as he liked. So, he had. Most of the day. Except for the couple of hours he’d spent going for a run and lifting weights in the little gym in the basement. The fresh air and return to routine confirming his illness was long gone.

It had also given him time to think about the last few days. He'd loved every last minute. Even while he was sick. Because of her.

Isaac set his knitting aside and stroked her shins as she relaxed again. "Get a lot done?"

She rubbed her eyes with the heels of her hands. "I can't get that stupid door to work right. I've walked through the code a hundred times. Something is missing or is there that shouldn't be but I can't find it. It doesn't make sense."

"If you're worried about that, does that mean you finished your levels though?"

She hung her head lacing her fingers together behind her head. "It's driving me crazy. I haven't been able to concentrate on anything else."

Shit. He should have prepared himself for this. "If you need to keep working, we don't have to go out." Prepared or not, it hurt just as much.
