"I'm sorry. God, I'm so sorry. I've been doing this all wrong. Making all the wrong choices and hurting everyone, including me. But especially you. And how shit is it to hurt someone you love." Katie clamped her hand over her mouth.

"I'm sorry. What did you say?"

She hadn't meant to say it. Not like that. Especially since she wasn't entirely sure it was how she felt.

Lies.

Why did she keep lying to herself? She didn't want closure. She wanted him. Because she loved him.

Katie took a measured breath facing him again. "I love you."

Stepping closer, he took her hand. "Don't you mean, I love you, too?"

Katie's breath stuck in her throat. "Did—did you…?"

He bent down resting his forehead on hers. "Katie…" his nose played with hers before their lips touched. Not in a kiss. More like a test. Like he wasn't sure it was okay for them to be this close.

But it was. She wanted his kiss, his everything. First, she wanted him to finish that sentence. "Yes?"

"I love you."

Katie freed the breath stuck in her throat. Panting, and through the tears she couldn't hold back anymore, she said, "I love you, too."

No sooner had the words left her lips, than he'd lifted her into his arms and she knew she'd never leave him again.

EPILOGUE

"Are you sure about this?" Isaac stood next to Katie's car holding a box full of programming books and assorted office supplies along with a lump of worry in his gut.

Katie put her hand on his arm as she turned to face the path from the road to the computer sciences building. They had discussed, in-depth, the consequences of her spending more time with Professor Poopface. After she told him about the job, he'd, as gently as possible, expressed his concerns about the majority of her stress coming from the professor and how being his TA could bring all that back, worse than ever.

"He won't tear us apart again. I promise," she'd said and he believed her but covered his bases just in case.

"You tell me," he'd said. "When you feel that pressure closing in on you. Tell me about it."

"I will."

"We'll get through it—"

"Together."

Katie squeezed his wrist bringing him back to where the worry still sat in his stomach.

"I'm sure about anything as long as I have you." She tipped up on her toes and kissed his cheek.

His heart swelled. Love replacing all his worries.

"Come on," she said and they walked side by side up the path.

"I thought I'd have dinner ready when you got home. Any requests?" Since Isaac couldn't live in the frat house after he graduated and Katie no longer had to live in the dorms since quitting her RA job, they had gotten an apartment together after graduation. And for the last two months or so, they'd barely left the apartment or the bedroom unless it had been absolutely necessary.

Isaac about dropped the box when Katie smacked and grabbed his ass. "You know what I want."

"Devil woman. Are you seriously going to get me going before I have to go home alone?"

"Yeah. You know how much I like to think about what you do when you're alone. Missing me."

After she'd come home early from her summer job to find him jerking off holding a pair of her panties under his nose, she wouldn't let him forget it. Maybe it was the years of having to handle herself that she had an obsession with self-pleasure but whatever it was, Isaac found it sexy as hell.
