He softly kissed me. “Barely, I am pretty good at this, but you can pay the rest by waking me with a kiss each morning.”

I pushed back a short strand of hair that had fallen into my face. “Do husband and wife always share the same bed in the North?”

“They do. Is it unusual in the South?”

I nodded. “My father and my mother often did, but I heard servants whisper that it was unseemly and rare for couples of noble birth to do so.”

“Well,” Alrick said, pulling me on top of him. I gave a short squeal of surprise. I’d always heard that, during lovemaking, the woman was supposed to lay on her back and let her husband be on top as proof of his dominance and higher position. How confident Alrick must be to not feel threatened by a woman.

“Unless Her Royal Highness demands otherwise,” he teased, “I shall humbly warm your bed until dawn.”

The thought of waking up in his arms every morning made me so incredibly happy. I moved my hips up a little until I could feel his hard manhood pressing against me again.

“What would one do all night in one bed?” I asked, touching his scar where it came to a point on his chest. For a brief moment, I could see him leading his men into battle. Fearless, proud, and strong. It aroused me. Made me feel protected and safe.“Your princess might expect you to prove your usefulness if I am to remain here until dawn,” I added.

Alrick laughed. Then he moved my hips right where he wanted me to be. A low growl escaped his lips.

“Let me show you.”
