CHAPTER12

THEN

REXLEY

Living with Cat is a dream come true, and I can’t wait until we move away from this town. It’s bad enough her dad won’t stop calling. I have to get her away from that brainwashing scum. He thinks he can warn her away from me. I should just kill him.No bad Rex, Cat will never forgive you.Ugh, why can’t everyone just leave us alone. Even my inner thoughts are trying to split us apart. Soon. Soon we can run away to our own little island.

I have been meeting with some people about building our dream home in a location no one will find us. I keep asking Cat random questions about what she wants, and I think she’s starting to catch on, but I haven’t confirmed anything. The company I’ve hired is discreet, and it won’t get back to my mother or father. That’s just what I need, that abusive asshole butting into my life. Bad enough he popped in for a chat a few days ago. Only left me with a split lip and a bloody nose.

I’m glad Cat was shopping with Lorna. That is one discussion I’m not ready to have yet.

“Hey, man, we haven’t seen you in a while,” Adam says, walking up beside me. I give him a fist bump and slam my locker closed. He’s been watching Bizzy since Cat is at my place, but he doesn’t know that it’s actually Cat’s missing dog.

“Yeah, since Cat moved into the pool house with me, we have been staying in a lot. She’s an amazing cook, too.” He gives me a slimy grin, and I shove him away. I’ve heard the rumors going around about Cat, and they piss me off.

“Have you seen Kelly? She isn’t answering my calls, and I need her to take care of something for me.” I shake my head and offer some bullshit ideas where she could be, keeping my face blank. Bitch got what she deserved. Now she’s beside her other backstabbing bestie.

I check my phone again for the time, then search the halls. Cat is still nowhere to be seen. After her ultrasound this morning, we talked about celebrating after school. I still can’t believe we are having a little princess.

“Have you seen Cat? We’re supposed to meet to go home,” I ask Adam, and he shakes his head as he’s playing on his phone.

“Maybe the library? I think they had study hall today.” I head off in that direction, and he follows me.

When I enter the dark library, two things catch my eye. One, it’s basically empty, and two, my Kitty is there with some asshole I don’t know, laughing. They are hunched over a book together. Too close.

My hands shake, and I curl them into fists. My feet take off before I even know that I have moved. When I come to that asshole is bloody on the ground by my feet, and Cat is backed against the wood table with my hand around her neck, and we have an audience.

“Who the fuck is that, Cat?” I growl, gripping her throat tighter. Not caring that everyone is watching us right now. She smacks my face, arm, trying to get me to let her loose, but my palm just tightens. If she thinks she can cheat on me then she’s dead. No one else can have her. She is mine!

“Rexley, what the fuck are you doing?” Adam yells, trying to pull me off her, but I won’t stop. She stops flailing and presses her lips hard to mine. Freezing my racing thoughts and panic. I kiss her back and ease my grip. She pants, catching her breath, and I grip her arm, pulling my face into hers.

“I told you you are mine. Not that little weasel. Mine.” I grip her arm tighter, and she tries to pull away from me.

“Please, Rex, you're hurting me. I didn't do anything I swear. We were just discussing class. I lost track of time.” She starts to cry, and her tears just enrage me more. I can’t believe she would do this to me. After everything I fucking do for her. She’s just another gold-digging, lying bitch. Just like my mother. I release her arm and slap her across the face. She leans to the side and lands hard on the empty library table.

Adam and Nick run up and separate us.

“Dude, I don’t know what kind of Jerry Springer shit you guys have in your relationship, but that is the mother of your child. You never hit the mother of your child, or any woman for that matter.” I scoff and leave him there to console Cat.

I need to get the fuck out of here before I really start killing people. I walk outside and leave my car in the parking lot. I follow the sidewalk to the side of the building where a park sits. My mind is a mess, and everytime I think of Cat, I just get angrier. What the fuck is wrong with me?

I watch the parents playing with their kids for a few hours until the sun sets, and they leave for dinner. A little girl comes up to me and hands me a cool bottle of water.

“Your face is red. You need a drink,” she says in her adorable little voice. She has blonde pigtails and green eyes. I blink a few times, making sure I’m not seeing a vision of the future.

She is missing her front teeth, and she gives me a big toothless grin. The sight has me laughing as I take the bottle from her little hand.

“Thank you, princess,” I say, and she scoffs.

“I’m not princess, I’m Asley.” I laugh again, and her mother calls her back. I nod my head to her and hold up the bottle. She gives me one more smile then takes off. I sit here for a little longer and picture Cat and I taking our baby here to play. Or a playground like this one. I should have one built in the backyard.

I take my phone out and make a note of it, then climb to my feet and walk back to my car. The lot is completely empty now, and it’s shadowed from the street lamps that have kicked on. I don’t mind though, I thrive in the shadows.

When I walk in my front door, I’m surprised to smell cookies baking and find Cat on the couch. I thought she would have gone home.

“Hey,” she says, sitting up. “I’ve been waiting for you. We need to talk, Rex.” I rush over to her side and pull her into a hug. Her body freezes, and I feel like the biggest idiot on the planet.

“I know I’m sorry doesn’t suffice, but I am, Cat, I am so sorry. I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with me. Please tell me I didn’t lose you,” I plead as I rock her, and she starts to softly cry. I sit on the couch and pull her onto my lap. She winces, and I look at her with a frown.
