“Morning.” She mumbled, and stretched again.

“How are you feeling?” I asked, skimming my hand over her tight little nipples and enjoying the heat of her silken skin.

“Awesome,” she sighed, “but a little sore.”

“I can imagine.” Three virile guys in the one sexual session provided plenty of reason for her to be sore, especially as she had been a virgin up until recently. I only hoped, as time went on, the soreness would ease and she would be left with only pleasure.

She smiled at me and climbed out of bed to walk to the bathroom, grabbing a kiss from Xander as he staggered back.

“We’re gonna need at least two ensuites for our bedroom,” she called out. “One for me and one for you three.” She shot us all a playful grin, just before the door shut.

I glanced at Xander. “We could build something like that. Big.”

The man would be my Alpha one day, nodded thoughtfully. “Yeah. We could.” Then he looked over at Michael. “Assuming you’re sticking around?”

Michael hauled himself up to lean against the bed head, his face a mask of scrunched-up indecision. “I don’t know.”

I wanted to roll my eyes and punch the guy, in equal measure. What was his problem now?

“How can you notknow?” I asked, sliding out of bed to grab my clothes. But they smelt worse than I did, and that was saying something. I tossed them to the floor again. “We seriously need to get some new clothes.”

I glanced at Michael. “You got any spares here? Any, you know... never-ending clothes drawers?”

The warlock chuckled. “Not exactly. But my magic has recharged quite a bit. So, here you go.” He waved his hand over the bed and magicked up a stack of jeans and sweaters.

I grinned at him. “Thanks.” I had to admit, the guy was pretty handy.

He sniffed then grimaced suddenly. “Though, before you get dressed... I think we all need showers.”

I laughed out loud at that one. “Yeah. I agree.”

Xander whacked Michael in the chest. “Get back to the question. Why the fuck wouldn’t you come with us? You just married Monique. You mated with her last night. I don’t even know how you can think about leaving her.”

Xander was just stating the obvious, we all knew that, but somewhere in there was a shit ton of emotion to unpack.

Michael sighed and thumped his head back against the wall a couple of times. “You don’t understand. Of course, I want to go with you, and stay with her. Iloveher. That’s not the problem.”

We waited, because we were pretty sure he’d spit out the relevant answer soon enough. The water was running in the bathroom so it was clear Monique was taking advantage of the shower.

Michael lifted his head and looked straight at Xander. “You’re gonna be your pack’s Alpha, aren’t you?”

Xander hesitated.

I answered for him instead. “Our current Alpha has no children and he’s been pretty absent from his role. He’s hardly ever home, actually. No one knows where the hell he slinks off to, but he certainly isn’t around to run things for our pack. Instead, Xander’s father runs our pack as the lead Beta. So, although there would be a contest for the position of our next Alpha, technically, most people assume that Xander will be the one to take over.”

Michael nodded. “Then you should understand. By leaving forever, and coming to live with you guys and Monique, I’m abandoning my realm, and all my people, to my father’s whim.”

I hadn’t thought about that. Michael was the heir to his realm, same as Xander was the Alpha-to-be.

“Would he hurt them, the people there?” I asked. “It looked like he ran the realm pretty well, really.”

Everything had been clean, the landscape and gardens full of flowers and color, and everyone seemed happy. Not that I was in any way an expert on how a magic realm should be run, but the overall impression while we were there had been positive. Especially compared to the devastation waiting for us back at the pack.

Michael grimaced. “I don’t actually know. Because you’re right. He’s been high warlock for over thirty years, and the people seem happy enough with the way things are run.”

Xander sighed. “But you don’t share the joy, do you? After all, you left several years ago.”

Michael ran a hand through his disheveled hair. “I left to get some perspective, and while I was out there, in the world, I realized my father was even weirder than I thought growing up.”
