I nodded, blinking to allow the tears that had filled my eyes to flow down my cheeks.

“Go on then,” he said, stepping back to allow me some room to breathe. “Go pee, or whatever you need to do.”

I laughed and it came out like a strangled sob. Then, with tears of happiness in my eyes once more, I raced off to the bathroom.

Weeing on a stick, held precariously between your legs, was not an easy task. But somehow I managed to follow the instructions, slip the plastic cap back on and clean myself up.

By the time I’d pulled my jeans back up and washed my hands, the little window was beginning to change. I grabbed the box and went back into the small living room where Michael was standing by the fridge.

He turned to stare at me, his eyes blazing with a silver magic I hadn’t seen in weeks. “Well?”

I rushed over to him, the stick in one hand, and the box in the other. “I think...” I didn’t trust myself to interpret it correctly, but I was shivering with excitement.

He compared the stick with its two dark lines and the box, then looked up at me. “You’re pregnant.”

I nodded, a laugh bubbling up in my throat.

Michael kissed me, hard and fast, then picked me up and swung me around. I squealed with happiness at the show of his excitement. But then my stomach lurched and I cried out. “Put me down, please. I’m gonna be sick.”

He set me on my feet straight away and I grabbed for his arms to steady myself.

“Do you want me to carry you back to the bathroom?” he asked, worry obvious in the pinch of his lips.

I swallowed hard, forcing the bile down. “I think I’m okay. But I should sit down.”

That was the other thing about me at the moment. I was dizzy all the time. Part of the reason I sat on the couch and read for half the day. Getting up and running around wasn’t always smart.

Michael helped me to the couch and we sat together, smiling and cuddling. It was a magnificent day, and I wanted to enjoy every moment of it.

When the door opened at lunchtime, I turned towards it with a huge smile on my face.

“What a beautiful greeting.” Kyle said, rushing over to me. “And here I was worried about you feeling poorly.”

“I am feeling unwell.” I agreed, “But with good reason.”

I got to my feet and looked up into Kyle’s kind face. “I’m pregnant.”

Kyle’s jaw dropped. “You’re...”

My hands went unerringly to my flat belly. “Yep.”

“Woo hoo!” Kyle picked me up and spun me around in a similar fashion to what Michael had done.

“Don’t spin her too much.” Michael said, grabbing Kyle’s shoulder. “She’ll be sick.”

Kyle set me on my feet and I swayed, “Woah..”

“Sorry.” He said, then grabbed my face and kissed me.

I held tight to his arms, relishing in his happiness, the warmth radiating off him.

Whatever darkness was to come, I was going to enjoy this day. Because who knew how many good moments we would have in the future?
