Mom moved around the cottage, looking at the kitchen and generally being nosey. “Is this where you live now? With your... um... family?”

I laughed because I was slightly hysterical, and scrubbed my face with my hands. I needed a shower. “Yeah. Xander and Kyle built this place when they were younger, and we were building a family home to move into in a few weeks. We’ll be lucky if it’s still standing now though.”

The guys walked into the room, dressed now.

I got to my feet. “Ah, Xander. Kyle. This is my mother. Marie.”

She smiled at them. “Nice to meet you both.”

Kyle’s jaw dropped open and Xander’s gaze shot to me. “Ah... explain.”

I understood their confusion. My mother had been a lifeless doll every time they’d met her so far. “I think my father put a spell on her, to make her sick. Weak. And when he died, it lifted.”

Mom clapped her hands together. “Yes. And I’m going to help you put your pack back to rights. Shall we go see the alpha?”

“You know the alpha?” I asked, shocked at how confident she sounded.

She tilted her head. “Um... sort of. If this is the same pack as I’m thinking of, Marguerite was in love with him, a long time ago.”

Xander stepped forward. “Do you know what happened to her, after she left?”

Mom’s brow furrowed. “She... lost a child. A baby boy. And she never recovered from that. She went looking for the alpha in her grief and never came home again.”

My jaw dropped. “So, she was pregnant?” And out of her mind with grief too, probably.

Mom nodded. “Yes. We never knew what happened to her, but I always believed she’d made a home with another coven. A power like that didn’t just snuff out. She was incredible.”

I glanced towards Xander and Kyle. “Maybe we should speak to the alpha? See what he wants to do?”

If my fated mate was still out there, I’d want to go and find her.

“Michael?” Monique called out and we all ran for the bedroom.

She was lying in bed where Xander had put her, but she was awake, both hands on her belly. I raced to her side. “Are you okay sweetheart?”

I stared down at her face. She was pale, but otherwise looked beautiful. Her lilac eyes were sparkling with health and magic.

“Yes. I’m okay. Just tired after everything. What happened?”

The guys came to sit with her and my mother stood at the end of the bed staring down.

“Ah, basically, the high warlock is gone, and my mother has come back to me. Seems like my father had put a curse, of a sort, on her.”

Monique sat up and stared at my mother, her mouth dropping open. “Really?”

“Hello Monique.”

Monique gasped. “Oh my god, you look so different.”

My mom laughed and the sound sent chills of wonder down my spine. I’d never heard her laugh before. “Well, thank you. I think.”

“Mom, Monique is my wife, and Xander and Kyle’s mate.”

Mom nodded, her eyes glowing with understanding.

“And she’s pregnant.” I managed to say.

“Four months.” Monique piped up.
