Mom blinked and tears coursed down her face. “I... um. I’m sorry. I just... I can’t believe I would have missed all of this. I’m so happy. For you all.”

The front door opened and someone called out, their voice hoarse. “Xander? Are you here?”

“In here, Dad.”

Max hurried into the bedroom, his face black and his shirt hanging in shreds around him. “Thank God. I didn’t know what had happened to you all.”

Xander got to his feet and went to embrace his father.

When they pulled back, the atmosphere in the room was thick with emotion.

“We’re all fine.” Xander said, coughing to clear his throat. “The high warlock is gone. Michael and Monique killed him. They saved our lives too.”

Max turned towards the bed and bowed his head. “I owe you a huge debt of gratitude.”

I smiled and nodded back at him.

Xander gestured to my mom. “Ah, Dad, this is Michael’s mother. She might have some information the alpha would find interesting.”

“I’d like to help with the clean up too.” Mom added. “My magic is buzzing and ready to work.”

I shook my head. I had no idea how she was so powerful outside of the realm, but if she had twenty years of stored energy, then I was happy for her to use it.

“Mom, why don’t you go with Max, and we’ll catch up later.”

They left and I sat on the bed with Monique. “We made it. Part of me can’t believe it.”

Monique grinned. “Well, my future premonitions were definitely wrong about who got hurt.”

I chuckled. “I’m glad.”

She looked around at our family and smiled brightly. “What should we do now?”

Kyle crawled onto the bed and lay down beside her. “Sleep. Then we should go check on our house and see if there’s anything left to salvage.”

I lay down on the free side of Monique and she lay back to join us. “Considering how powerful my mom is now, maybe we should just get her to put it back to rights.”

Xander groaned and lay down in front of Monique, reaching for her with his hand. “Sounds good to me.”

We cuddled in our bed and I closed my eyes, thanking the heavens for this day. For the safety my father’s death brought with it.
