The slightest flare of her nostrils predicted her resistance. “I don’t see—”

“Once we are in a location where I believe you can’t again locate this building, I will remove the restraint. I mean you no harm. Assuming you mean me no harm, of course.” His tone lowered with the last sentence, and he added a charming twist of his lips.

She released a hefty breath. “Of course.” She pivoted and remained still, the line of her spine straight and elegant, the skin below the blunt edge of her hair almost luminous.

His heart stuttered, then resumed beating. He almost handed the fabric to her to place lest his fingers graze the velvety smoothness and linger.

Dammit.Stop thinking with your dick. What was it about this woman which had him already at attention and craving her intimate warmth? Love charms were heavily regulated in the paranormal world by both Clan Magic and the North American Council at Enchanted Rock. He never heard of one lasting more than twenty-four hours, but maybe something had been improved recently in the love charm formulation, not that she’d even had time to use one.

‘Love?’ He halted his line of thought and his hands clenched, crushing the silk in his fingers. No. She attracted him, and he’d been without a bed partner for some time. He only needed sex.

With a brisk shake, he unfolded the oversized handkerchief, formed the square into a triangle, then folded the long edge three times to ensure enough thickness that she would not see through the fabric’s weave. He left an end which would fall over her cheeks.

With brusque, efficient movements, he placed the fabric’s thick line over her eyes, then tied the knot behind her head.

During the entire time, she remained stock-still, her shoulders back, her head unbowed. Only the slight increase of her breathing and a minute sway of her body indicated she might not be happy about this turn of events.

His dirty mind leapt to the idea she might enjoy what a blindfold could mean between sexual partners. His rational side took over. He didn’t even know if she enjoyed sex with males, let alone that type of play, or even if she truly found him attractive.

Stop believing your own damn press. Not every woman wants you.Who wouldn’t be nervous about being blindfolded? He glanced down. If he’d been effectively blinded and had to negotiate the world in those sky-high heels, he’d be apprehensive, too.

He opened the door, one spelled to react to certain amulets. She never would’ve escaped unless she discovered where he hid his. “I’m going to steer you, okay?”

A short nod confirmed her understanding, and he placed his hands on her shoulders while refusing to entertain his desire to stroke her skin. “Forward four steps.” Once she complied, he said, “Left.” He put light pressure on her right shoulder and pulled gently on the other to move her down the hallway.

Similar prodding and directions brought them into the industrial elevator, then down to the first floor where vehicles were parked.

He chose one of the five black SUVs from the operational fleet. Caution remained his word of the day. He had no doubt this woman could be dangerous. Driving took attention away from her body language, which might signal if she planned to attack. He hadn’t bound her hands. Though confident of his strength, if she managed to best him, there may be identifying information to learn within his personal vehicle, something he could not hazard.

He rounded the front of the SUV, ensuring she didn’t move the blindfold. She was as good as her word and merely fumbled with her seatbelt until she’d secured the restraint. He climbed in, buckled his own belt, and turned to discover he hadn’t shut her door. Damn embarrassing to be so distracted. “Please shut your door.”

She swallowed hard. Had she reacted to the unintentional husky tone which had crept into his voice? She leaned to her right and found the door. The heavy panel’s slam echoed in the interior with an ominous finality.

The light floral and citrus notes of her perfume rose to his nose, and he restrained himself from inhaling the fragrance like a junkie. He started the vehicle, grateful for the A/C system which circulated the air in the suddenly stuffy interior. He reached for his tie before he remembered he didn’t have one on today.

Get her safe then go home to your damn hand and a shower. He turned up the fan and pointed the air away from him with jerky, impatient movements, then directed the vehicle toward the garage door.

With a pop through the containment spell, he entered a bright, unusually clear San Francisco day. He turned onto the street. A musky, heady arousal twined with her perfume and sent his senses spinning. With a hard jerk to the right, he pulled over, bouncing on the curb, and brought the SUV to a stilting stop. He curled his hands around the steering wheel, attempting to control his runaway desire.

“Whoa. What happened?” She hadn’t turned her head or attempted to take off the blindfold.

Unable to discern any pretense in her voice, West gave himself a hard mental shake, then said the first thing which came to his mind. “Avoided a cat.” He grimaced with the double meaning behind the animal.

He was going to have a hard time avoiding this pussy.

CHAPTER5

Caro clamped her legs together, trying to lessen the ache which had built there, making her slick and hot and wanting the demon next to her. That he would avoid a cat showed a sweet and tender side to him, only adding to the fucked-up emotions within her.

The car began to move once more. She must remember her training. If she didn’t get her runaway reaction to him under control, he’d smell her arousal. She resisted a squirm in the SUVs leather seat.

She’d never been tempted to play this way with sex, though based on how the visual deprivation heightened her senses, she’d have to try sometime. Maybe with him? His scent tempted her. When he’d tied the fabric around her eyes, his heart had thumped, then began to pound. Her skin had tingled under his fingers as he guided her down the hall, while her core melted when his hot, husky commands stirred against her ear.

Focus!

She pushed her rampaging libido into a mental closet and shut the door.Pay attention to the vehicle. The SUV traveled slightly uphill. He turned right. A left, then a series of two more lefts brought them going downhill. As she suspected, he circled, trying to ensure she wouldn’t be able to follow the path back to his lair. Every data point mattered in the life-and-death Clan Sanguis world.

They had been traveling what had to be ten minutes, and she found she could no longer track the turns reliably. Instead, she started to track the amount of the sunlight’s warmth coming through the side window and windshield. At least she’d get a general direction.
