Patrons and staff alike take cover behind anything they can find. Ares is going to shit bricks over this. Never in the history of Asylum has a gunfight broken out.

The second the doors of the elevator swoosh closed Asena is on her knees and I’m afraid she’s going to pass out.

The numbers tick off on the overhead readout. My hands start to tingle as we pass the first floor and the basement. By the time we hit the sub-basement I can barely feel my fingers they are so numb.

Yeah, there’s a secret basement we Savages use for storage of some illegal shit. I’m tempted to make a pit stop there and get heavier firepower and end this before it can truly get started.

“Breathe. Everything is going to be fine.” I tug her off the floor and I lose my grip. Blood streams down my arm and I can’t hold on because of it. Sometimes this city feels a little too damn small.

Her expression turns pale. “Oh my God, Hark, you’re hit.”

“Yeah, no shit. Fuck,” I growl. I try to move my shoulder but the damn thing screams with pain the second the thought crosses my mind. “Answer me, damn it,” I say through clenched teeth. “Why is he here?” I have a gut feeling it has to do with the blood on her dress.

Wild red hair flies with her quick motions. She lifts a section of her dress the splatter of blood she is wearing missed and rips off a long strip. She starts doing something to make me grunt and nearly take a knee in pain.

“Give me. You can’t drive.”

I guess I had keys in hand because she already knows my next step.

“Asena,” I bark, but my next words are cut off.

Using my good arm, I pin her close to my side when the elevator doors open just in case we are not alone. This time she takes out my spare Desert Eagle and takes aim down the six-inch barrel. When no one jumps out or tries to put another bullet in us we move.

Not the time, but her holding my girl makes my dick ache right along with the rest of me.

We run in the direction of my bike, but Asena is already shaking her head. “Not gonna happen, buddy,” she quips. “Not unless you want to die of bullet holesandroad rash.”

“Good point.”

Our other option is Ares’ truck. It’s an old-timer but it’s been here for repairs for the last while after his woman used it as a shield in the middle of a shootout weeks back.

I jerk my chin in that direction. “Keys are under the visor.” No use in locking anything down here.

I put a hand on Asena’s shoulder and she comes to an abrupt halt from shoveling my two-fifty frame into the passenger seat with little progress.

I take a handful of red hair and turn her lips up to mine. “Baby, you need to answer me. What is the fucking Druid doing here and why are you running scared to me of all people?”

Her pretty face blurs but I can see that tongue peek out and swipe over those lips.

I take what I want. Just one. Might be my last. She groans when my lips slide over hers. Fuck, she tastes just like my dreams. My vision makes everything do a funny little dance and I suspect it’s from the amount of blood pooling at my feet.

Breathing heavily, she tears her mouth from mine. The palm across my cheek has me releasing my grip on her hair, but there’s nothing she can do about the smirk on my lips.

“Arrogant bastard,” she mutters savagely. “He’s my husband. And he’s here to kill me.”

Asena

This is bad. Damn, I led the Druid straight to Hark. What the hell was I thinking?

I wasn’t, is the problem. I acted on a knee-jerk reaction and well, shit is all over the place now.

I punch the gas on the old truck and the tires leave behind a nasty burned rubber smell. The unweighted backend fishtails on the smooth pavement and nicks the side of a gorgeous midnight blue Harley with iridescent flames licking down the sides.

ECK.My bad!

I cringe inward a little, but only shrug for him to see. “Opps,” I offer as a small form of an apology but deep down, I kind of like putting the level of fear I see on Hark’s face right now. He’s ghostly pale but that little dent put some color back into his cheeks.
