“You remind me of someone I used to know,” the man says, flashing sharp canines. “Come, then. Let’s have a dance.”

“Do you know him, Iris?” Julian asks from beside me.

“No.” I can’t explain why but this man is creeping me out. His stare is too direct, too hungry. I don’t want this man touching me or getting close to me in any way.

“She doesn’t want to dance with you,” Julian says in a grim tone. “Please, excuse us.” Julian takes my hand and is about to lead me away from the dance floor but the stranger stands in our way.

“Let her go, omega,” the man commands.

I cringe at the dominance he’s exerting over Julian. It’s not directed at me but I can feel how strong it is.

Julian’s jaw clenches as he stares up at the man.

“Leave, omega,” the alpha commands in a stern tone.

Julian’s chest rises and falls rapidly. Sweat gathers across his forehead. He’s battling against this man’s compulsion who’s hellbent on dancing with me.

It is physically painful for an omega to stand up against a direct order from an alpha. I can’t stand the look of utter devastation on his face as his resolve starts to crumble in the face of the alpha’s battering dominance.

“I’ll dance with you,” I force out.

A cold grin flits across his lips. It’s not a warm smile but a sneer borne from triumph.

Fucking bully, I curse internally as the man steps forward.

“Iris...” Julian says in a pained voice.

“It’s fine,” I tell him as the stranger grabs my wrist and pulls me against him.

His touch sends an icy chill through me.

I’m forced to look at my partner as he leads me into a dance. A repulsive scent wafts into my nostrils, reminding me of tar and burning plastic.

“Where have you been all these years?” the stranger asks.

I stare at him, wondering if he’s completely insane.

His keen gaze and suave appearance are at odds with his behavior. He looks like a man in possession of both power and wealth. Why’s he being so crude and shallow?

Besides, there are plenty of beautiful women here. Why did he choose to target me?

“Who are you?” I ask.

“I’m General Nox Callahan,” he answers in a deep, scratchy voice that grates against my nerves. “What’s your family name, Iris?”

“Collins,” I mutter.

He makes a humming sound and leans in close. His nose skims along the column of my neck, sniffing.

I push him away but he tightens his hold on me, keeping me locked in position.

“Don’t resist me, Iris,” he says in a low voice that’s heavy with dominance.

This man possesses massive power. His command is nearly impossible to ignore or reject.

My muscles lock together. I hate my emerging omega qualities that make it harder to submit to a powerful alpha.

“What’s your father’s name?” Callahan asks.
