“Do we have any bacon?” Damon asks.

“I’ll check in the fridge.”

“Make some eggs too,” Damon says as he settles down at the table. “I’ve worked up quite an appetite after last night’s fun.” Turning toward Julian, he adds, “Get me some coffee too.”

I’m surprised by how casual they’re being with each other.

Could they have been so busy with each other last night that they never caught my scent? A sliver of hope goes through me.

I decide to play along for now.

Going to the fridge, I bring out a carton of eggs and some thick-cut bacon.

I hear Damon and Julian whispering to each other when I turn toward the stove.

My ears prick up but I can’t make out what they’re saying. Were they talking about me? My anxiety starts creeping back in again.

When the eggs and bacon are cooked, I risk glancing at them.

They both have casual looks on their faces.

Maybe they were whispering naughty things to each other?

Staying wary, I join them at the table.

They’re voracious this morning.

Damon stabs at the pancakes and directly shoves them whole in his mouth. Julian has a big mound of scrambled eggs on his plate that he’s polishing off at an alarming rate.

“You’ll choke if you don’t slow down,” I say as an amused chuckle escapes me.

“Too hungry,” Damon says, grabbing the bacon slices with his bare hands.

Warmth washes over me.

Watching them enjoying my food makes everything feel better. It’s so easy to forget about the nightmarish party.

Suddenly, I’m glad they kept me in the same bed with them last night. It’s the only reason I could sleep so deeply after witnessing such a brutal murder.

“Is there any news about who’s responsible for last night’s attack?” I ask when Damon’s sipping his coffee.

“There’s nothing on the news yet,” he says with a frown. “I don’t know why they’re keeping a lid on the incident.”

“I still can’t forget about the face of the man they blew up,” I confess.

“I’m just glad you’re not in shock,” Julian says.

“I did go into shock but my survival instincts kicked in when that other man attacked me,” I say, thinking about Callahan.

“He looked like a gentleman but was a fucking perv,” Julian says with a sneer.

“Nox Callahan,” Damon utters the name like it’s poison on his tongue. “Caleb better take care of the matter before I decide to go rip his head off.”

I shake my head and grab Damon’s wrist. “Don’t. He’s dangerous.”

An amused grin comes over his lips. “Are you worried about me, Wildcat?”

“I can’t protect you from him,” I mutter, hating the fact I’m an omega and absolutely useless when facing an alpha.
