“You want to protectme?”

Heat rises to my cheeks but I hold his gaze and nod. “Always.”

A happy chuckle escapes him as he gets to his feet. Walking around the table, he comes over to me and drops a kiss on the top of my head.

“You’re so sweet, Wildcat,” he murmurs in my hair. “Makes me want to devour you.” A growl escapes him, the sound making my heart pound.

“Damon.” Julian’s voice has a hint of warning.

He lets out a grunt and walks away from me.

“Where are you going?” I ask as he strides toward the door.

“Work,” he mutters with a cold glance at Julian. “I have to find out what Caleb and Raiden are up to. I’m surprised they haven’t come home yet.”

“Yeah, you should get an update from them,” says Julian. “I’ll watch over her until then.”

Damon sticks his tongue out at Julian and then turns toward me and winks.

“What was that about?” I ask, looking at Julian.

“He’s being a baby.” His grin widens. “Come on. Let’s take a walk outside.”

“I was thinking about cleaning up first.”

“Nah. That can wait.” Getting to his feet, he extends his hand toward me. “Come on. It’s so sunny outside.”

There’s no point in delaying the “talk”.

I take his hand and let him lead me out of the kitchen.

A cool breeze passes by, blowing hair all over my face, the moment we step outside. Under direct sunlight, my hair shines like liquid gold.

There’s no way I can deny being an omega now. Apart from my scent, my features are also becoming more accented now.

The grounds around the mansion are huge. Trees dot the area but they’re mostly bare at this time of the year.

The sound of several pounding feet draws my attention to a group of cadets jogging in a single file. Several gazes fall on both of us as they pass us by.

Julian comes to a stop when we reach a quieter corner.

A bare oak tree spreads its branches over our heads. Several wild rose bushes cluster around its base. Blood-red buds blossom among them, adding a splash of color to the dull surroundings.

Julian bends over a flower. His eyes close for a brief second as he inhales deeply.

“Your perfume is sweeter than this rose’s,” he murmurs, his face still hovering over the blossom.

I stay quiet, waiting to see his real reaction to my secret.

Julian straightens and looks directly at me. “How long have you known?” he asks.

“Not too long ago,” I say without any pretensions. There’s no point in denying my true nature anymore. He already knows. “The doctor at the ER unit told me what was happening to me.”

“Can you explain what happened?” he says. “How does someone turn into an omega overnight?”

“I was born as an omega,” I say in a low, bitter voice. “My mom made sure to stuff me with O-pills and suppressers all my life. She called them vitamin pills and always made sure I took them.”

Julian lets out a frustrated noise. “Why would she do that?”
