Caleb and Raiden look especially gaunt, as if they’d stayed awake an entire night.

Anxiety settles in my gut. Something deep inside me rebels at seeing them in such states. An overwhelming need to soothe their worries comes over me.

A sliver of surprise flickers through me. It’s the same emotion I feel for Julian and Damon. Could it be possible that Caleb and Raiden were my mates too? They were a pack, after all...

Closing my eyes, I shake my head.

I’m still a long way from recognizing my omega instincts. They’re growing stronger each day but I still need time to get used to them and not get confused by emotions arising from simple friendship.

Suddenly, the four men before me stir in unison.

Their nostrils flare, as if they’re trying to draw in a scent. As if in a pre-choreographed move, they all turn their heads toward me.

Their eyes burn with an intensity that turns me breathless.

Raiden rises to his feet. His brothers follow, and one by one, they prowl toward me.

Damon pushes past his brothers, reaching me first.

“How’re you feeling?” he asks.

His brothers surround me before I can answer.

Their presence overwhelms me. I don’t know who to look at first. Something deep inside me stirs up with excitement, urging me to touch them all.

A particularly painful throb assaults my forehead, nearly blinding me. My feet stumble, my body falling backward.

A solid wall of muscle breaks my fall. Strong arms wrap around me in a firm hold, steadying me. The scent of sweet hickory smoke wafts into my nostrils. Burning amber eyes stare down at me. “Kitty,” Damon murmurs, his gaze anxious.

I find my footing and straighten up. “Sorry. It’s this stupid headache that won’t go away.”

Damon’s arms still hold me against him.

Raiden steps forward, his blue eyes swirling with worry. Reaching out, he rests his palm on my forehead.

My eyes flutter close at his cool, soothing touch.

“You’re burning up,” Raiden mutters in a low voice.

“Let me see,” Caleb comes from behind me and takes Raiden’s place. His palm touches my forehead.

His cool skin feels good against my heated brow.

Another nasty throb assaults my head the moment he takes his hand away. My limbs feel weak, making me sag against Damon.

“That’s it,” Damon says. I feel him shifting against me. Next moment, he’s sweeping me off my feet and hauling me up in his strong arms.

I gasp, hurrying to clasp my arms around his neck.

My cheeks warm with embarrassment but it’s also absolute relief to hold him so close to me. His hard body is like a burning furnace, driving away the chill that seems to have settled deep in my bones.

“She needs space to breathe!” Julian’s voice sounds outside the wall of muscles surrounding me.

The Solveig brothers break formation, coming to stand on Damon’s either side.

“Let me guess,” Julian says, grinning jubilantly. “You guys feel the pull too.”

Haunted looks come over Caleb and Raiden as they nod.
