Sandwiched between them, I’m thoroughly warmed up.

“Sweet dreams,” Damon whispers, his teeth nibbling along the shell of my ear.

“Mhmm,” I moan, burying my face in Julian’s chest.

It’s not long before slumber takes over my senses.

My eyes fly open.

Heart pounding in my chest, I stare up at the dark ceiling, wondering what caused me to jerk awake so violently.

The mattress dips beside me.

A dark figure rises from the bed and rushes toward the window.

I sit up as Julian stirs beside me.

“What’s going on?” Julian moans.

Bright lights suddenly bathe the room, blinding me momentarily.

“Keep the lights switched off,” Damon’s low voice sounds from the window.

“Why?”

“Just do it,” Damon says in a commanding tone.

Julian obeys, switching off the lights and sinking us back into darkness.

I’m about to relax when a loud blast makes me jump off the bed.

The glass at the windows rattles as distant cries of men reach my ears.

“What’s happening?” Julian asks in a low, urgent tone.

Before Damon can answer, the sound of a low-flying chopper sounds right over us.

“Get dressed,” says Damon.

The dominance in his voice makes Julian and me act without wasting a second. I’m still wearing Julian’s shirt. The hem reaches mid-thighs, so it’s decent enough if we’re forced to run out of the house.

“Here,” Julian says, throwing a heap of clothes at Damon. “Let’s go downstairs.”

Damon hurriedly gets dressed and moves toward the door.

Light pours in from the corridor when he opens the door, casting a golden halo around his dark silhouette.

“Iris, stick close to Julian and follow me.”

“What was that blast about?” Julian asks as he wraps his fingers around my wrist.

“I don’t know,” says Damon. “The entrance of the trainee dorm was damaged by the blast. I need to figure out why that chopper is hovering over our property.”

Instead of going downstairs, we make our way to the surveillance room that belongs to Julian.
