I kick at the man to his left. He moves aside to avoid my foot, giving me the space I need to slide out from between him and his companion.

The corner of my lips quirks up as I run for the door. The men are barely able to keep up with me as they bump and collide against each other inside my room.

A few of them manage to chase me down the narrow hallway. Reaching the staircase, I avoid taking the stairs. Instead, I jump right in, landing at the foot of the staircase.

“She’s running away!” the men shout from the top of the staircase.

I know that most of the men are still upstairs. The only person I need to get through is the big, bad alpha.

Instead of going into the living room, I run into the kitchen. If I could reach it, I could slip out through the back door there.

My hand reaches out toward the door when a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist, nearly lifting me off the floor.

“Let go!” I screech, kicking back at the man.

The stranger takes my merciless kicking but doesn’t loosen his hold on me. His arms tighten around me, squeezing the air out of me.

“Stop,” he says in a voice that sheds command in pounding waves. His scent crashes around me, the smell of gunpowder and diesel strong in my nostrils.

I suffocate, struggling against my body’s reaction to the alpha’s direct command.

It’s not long before the fight goes out of me like the dying flame of a candle against a strong wind.

The man lowers me to my feet but keeps a steady hold on both my arms. Something cold and metallic tightens around my wrists. It’s a second before I realize he’s handcuffed me.

Grabbing the back of my shirt’s collar, he turns me around to face him.

A cruel, amused grin is etched on that angelic face.

He’s no angel, I scoff at the response of my dazed brain. He’s a fucking demon.

The sound of feet enters the kitchen. My captor looks over my head and his smile widens.

“She did that to you, Garcia?” he asks in a voice that shivers over me like the tip of a knife.

Glancing that way, I catch hold of the man I’d attacked in my room. He’s still clutching his nose while blood spurts from between his fingers. I cringe at the sight.

There’s no way they’re going to go easy on me now.

“Hand me the rope,” says the alpha.

One of the men moves forward to hand him a length of black cord.

I immediately step back as the alpha goes down on his knees.

“Don’t move,” he says.

“No.” I start moving away but he grabs my right ankle.

“Stay!” he barks out a command.

I lift my left leg to kick him away but he grabs my ankle and yanks hard. My right foot slides out from under me, and suddenly, I’m falling backward.

Anticipating a hard fall, I squeeze my eyes shut.

But the fall never comes.

Heart thundering in my chest, I slowly open my eyes. A powerful arm supports my back while my body is tilted against the floor.
