Garcia has Iris in a grip and he’s laid the tip of a knife against her cheek.

“No...” The air in my lungs turns cold.

I don’t even wait for Raiden as I run out of the room.

My feet are still encased in soft slippers. I’m still wearing my PJs with little pineapples on them, but I don’t care about my appearance. All my focus is on running as fast as I can to reach the trainee mess on the other side of the estate.

My feet pound on the grass as I run toward the black granite building in the distance.No. No. No. I can’t let that bastard cut her.The chant keeps repeating in my head as I run at top speed.

“Julian!” Raiden’s voice calls from behind me. “Wait up!”

I don’t listen, bursting through the open doorway of the trainee dorms.

My gaze darts around the entrance hall while I desperately try to remember which way the dining room is located. My eyes spot a familiar corridor and I take off, desperately hoping to reach her in time.

A crowd has gathered at the doorway. They’re all watching the scene play out inside the room without any protest. How the hell have Raiden and Damon been training these soldiers?

“Get out of my way,” I demand. At first, no one budges. It takes them a couple of seconds to recognize who I am.

I hurriedly walk inside the mess hall and find Iris in Garcia’s clutches. He still grips his knife close to her face. My eyes desperately search for injuries on her face but thankfully, there are none.

“Let her go,” Alistair shouts. “This is no way to treat her.”

“She started it,” Garcia argues. “Get out of my fucking way, old geezer.”

“You’ll be suspended over your attitude,” Alistair warns him. “You can’t hurt someone the commander sent to work here.”

Garcia sneers. “She’s the daughter of a family that’s wronged the commander. I doubt he’ll care what happens to her.”

He presses the blade against her cheek while she’s uselessly struggling against him. He has his arms firmly locked around her neck, making sure she can’t escape him.

The tip cuts into her skin. A trickle of blood oozes out and I feel a hot explosion erupting deep inside me.

“Let her go right now,” I shout, stalking forward.

Garcia’s eyes pop when he sees me. “Julian,” he mumbles dumbly.

“Didn’t you hear me? Get your hands off her right now.”

“Don’t get closer,” Garcia warns. “She’s dangerous.”

I walk up to him. Iris watches me with fear in those beautiful green eyes. She thinks I’m here to hurt her as well.

Reaching forward, I grab Garcia’s hand and force it away from Iris. “I told you to let her go.”

“She’s mine,” he says stubbornly.

The wordminemakes the rage burn hotter inside me. A brave and loyal girl like Iris could never belong to an asshole like him.

“No, Ted. She’sours.”

“You don’t understand, Julian,” Garcia argues. “She’s dangerous and feral. She’ll harm you. Commander Caleb will have my head if you get hurt because of her.”

“Garcia!” a familiar voice barks from the doorway.

Raiden comes forward, his blue eyes flashing with anger. His handsome face is taut with fury. He sheds alpha dominance in pounding waves and I’m sure everyone can feel the aggression in his scent.

“Let go of Iris,” Raiden says in a low voice but it rumbles like thunder.
