“Like? If I didn’t have to work jobs, I’d be online all the time.”

“Waitressing isn’t all that you do, then?” Raiden asks in a grim tone.

“I write codes as well,” I say. “A few years of working these jobs will allow me to go to college. Well, that was the plan. I don’t think any of that stuff matters anymore.” A sudden tightness in my throat cuts me off. “I’m trapped here now.”

“Your parents took an extremely large sum of money from us,” Raiden says in a grim tone. “It should’ve been enough for Delilah’s school as well as yours.”

“Dad needed to replace some of the old machinery in his factory,” I explain. “After deducting Delilah’s fees, they probably invested the rest of the money there.”

“So, your sister gets a free ride to school and you don’t.” Julian’s grim gaze makes me want to hide in a corner. I know he’s thinking what everyone else thinks.

“I’m not adopted,” I say before he can ask me.

“Never said you were,” Julian replies in a gentle tone. Coming closer, he wraps an arm around my shoulder.

My body stiffens. I have to stop breathing to avoid inhaling his intoxicating scent. There’s no way I can let him or Raiden see the effect he’s having on me.

“How about we let her rest?” Raiden suggests. “In the meantime, we’ll fix the bed for her and make this place habitable.”

Surprised, I stare at the big alpha before me. Was he being serious?

“Sounds like a great idea,” says Julian, still holding onto me. “I’ve been bored out of my mind since Caleb and Damon started going to these daily administrational visits. Even you spend all your time training those idiots.”

Raiden lets out an exasperated sigh. “It’s only for a few months. We’ll be free once the delegates from the western states leave.”

“I hate having to be patient while you guys stomp around feeling important.”

Raiden chuckles. With a sudden move, he grabs Julian’s wrist and pulls him away from me. Next moment, he crashes his lips over Julian’s mouth and kisses him deeply.

Heat flows through my veins at the sight. My heart races as I watch them kiss each other fiercely.

I know I should look away but my senses take over my mind. I gaze at them like a pervert, stealing pleasure from simply watching them.

“Can you find your way back downstairs?” Raiden asks in a suddenly rough voice.

“Sure,” I squeak out.

“Great,” he whispers, leaning in to swipe his tongue over Julian’s luscious lips. “We’ll see you in a few hours.”

My tongue darts out to lick my own lips. I want to continue watching them but know they don’t want me hanging around.

Just go, I tell myself, forcing my feet to move away from them.

Julian’s moans follow me as I head toward the doorway. Reaching it, I run outside before I can hear more.

Emotions and sensations I’ve never felt before clash through my body and mind, confusing me.

You can’t get attracted to them, I tell myself. You’ll never be their mate or a member of their pack.

I find my way back to the kitchen.

Bright sunshine pours in through the clear glass windows, illuminating the shiny modern appliances all around me. Everything is quiet and still here.

Away from Julian and Raiden’s overwhelming presence, I can finally breathe free. Every part of my body feels like its soaked in their pheromones.
