Page 42 of Knot My Pack

Calm steals through me after the hectic day I’ve had at the assembly house.

An international conference is about to take place next month and all the offices are busier than usual.

Since my pack is responsible for overseeing Winslow’s security, I’m forced to go through regular meetings and discussions with the departments in charge of logistics and finances.

It’s tiring and exasperating to justify everything to a room full of civilians who have absolutely no knowledge of military strategies.

Julian finally notices my presence.

His face lights up as soon as he sees me. Dropping the magazine, he gets to his feet and hurries toward me.

“Busy day?” he asks, taking my briefcase from my hand.

“Yeah,” I say, loosening my tie.

By the time we reach the couch, I’ve taken off my jacket. Sinking into a sofa, I allow myself to relax. That’s when I notice the shirt Julian’s wearing.

The lavender-shaded silk shirt is familiar. With a start, I realize it’s the same one I bought him last month. The color brightens his violet eyes. His ash-blond hair is styled in waves that frame his beautiful face.

“Where’s Damon?” he asks. “I haven’t seen him all day today.”

“He’s at SAD.”

Julian’s expression falls at once.

Silk-and-Daggers (SAD) is an underground nightclub that caters to elite clients. Damon has started a habit of spending most nights there. It’s a sore spot with Julian.

“I guess it’s just you and me tonight,” says Julian, wiping the frown off his face. “Let’s go into the kitchen. I have something special planned for you this evening.”

Surprise flickers through me. Usually, Julian wouldn’t miss the chance to complain about SAD and how its whorish clients won’t stop trying to seduce Damon away.

Moving closer, he takes my hand and pulls me to my feet. “Come on, lover. Let’s not get the food cold.”

Heat spreads through me as he leans in for a kiss.

I inhale his familiar scent as his tongue sweeps between my lips. My fingers grip his waist as he deepens the kiss.

This is exactly what I needed tonight. Nothing feels better than having my mate all to myself.

“Let’s go,” Julian says. “I can’t wait for you to see what we’re having for dinner.” Grabbing my hand, he leads me toward the kitchen.

A delicious aroma wafts into my nostrils when I step inside the kitchen. The table in the corner is laden with dishes.

Julian walks ahead and removes the cloches covering the plates.

I’m greeted with the sight of fat, juicy steaks generously slathered with mushroom sauce. My mouth waters immediately.

“Let’s eat,” Julian announces and holds out a chair for me.

Pecking his lips, I sit down.

Julian pours me a glass of wine as I pick up my knife and fork. Bending down, he lifts the flute and touches the rim to my lips.

I take a sip of the wine and realize he’s picked my favorite.

A smile comes to my lips as I cut into the surprisingly tender steak. It’s been perfectly seared and cooked the way I like it.

I take a bite and feel the meat melting in my mouth.
