Julian’s different, I tell myself.So is Raiden.

These men treated me with kindness. They rescued me from being beaten and sliced open. It was wrong not to trust them.

But you owe them three million dollars, the voice grows louder in my head, dimming the happiness I feel.

My logic conflicts with the emotions rising inside me. I want to stay close to Julian but would his mates allow that? Would they continue to let me stay here while they hunt for my parents and sister?

Switching off the shower, I grab the towel to dry off.

The fabric is thick and soft against my skin. I’ve never used anything as luxurious as this before.

My cheeks heat when I grab the bra and panties Julian bought me. How could he tell what size I was? My clothes were baggy. He must’ve paid extra attention to get it right.

Next, I take the dress and pull it over my head. The fabric is smooth and satiny, gliding over my skin easily.

It’s a while before I’m able to zip up the back. Julian was meticulous in ordering the exact size so that the dress would fit me like a glove.

Glancing toward the mirror, I stare at my reflection.

How can a simple dress make such a change?

I go to wrap the long length of my hair into a regular bun but stop. It looks nicer hanging down my shoulders.

I rarely gave a second thought to my looks before but a deep need inside me urges me to look my best for Julian. He doesn’t belong to you, that snide voice is back in my head.

My mind is still trapped between desire and the need to protect myself.

Ignoring the voices in my head, I turn away from the mirror and put on my shoes. When I’m done, I open the door and walk out.

Reaching the kitchen, I find Julian at the table, scrolling along the screen of his phone.

The boxes that littered the floor earlier are all gone.

His beautiful eyes light up the moment he sees me. “Iris,” he breathes, his gaze roving all over me. “You’re gorgeous.”

I struggle not to smile too broadly. “Thanks,” I say, desperately trying not to blush in front of him. “Thank you for the beautiful dress.”

He shakes his head. “It’s not the dress, sweetheart. It’s you.”

Coming closer, he hooks a finger under my chin and lifts my face to him.

Helpless, I gaze into his eyes.

“Will you always dress like this for me?” he asks in a gentle voice.

“Okay,” I agree without a second thought.

His smile broadens. “You’re so sweet, Wildflower.”

My heart swells up like a balloon at those words. I wouldn’t be surprised if my feet were hovering over the ground.

“Julian?” I say.

“Hmm?”

“Can I use a phone to call my friend?”

His smile falters. “I’m sorry,” he says, shaking his head. “You’ll need Caleb’s permission to contact someone.”
