“Try fighting me.”

I stare at him, trying to gauge his intention.

A small grin plays on his lips. “On three,” he says, suddenly marching toward me. “One, two, three.” Without warning, he lungs forward, throwing a fist right at me.

I step back in time to avoid the hit.

Raiden doesn’t give me time to think as he launches a series of punches and kicks.

My mind is swept of all nonsense. I only focus on avoiding the well-aimed attacks.

I’m able to keep up with him but my stamina falters after a while. My breaths turn heavy and labored. Sweat drips from the side of my face.

Raiden doesn’t look the least bit shaken.

Taking a deep breath, I increase the distance between us, allowing me to launch myself in one of the most lethal kicks I could manage. My move is fast enough to take him by surprise but he blocks my foot with his arm.

The impact is the same as hitting the tree trunk.

I land on the ground with a throbbing toe.

“You’re really good,” Raiden says with a surprised grin. “No wonder you could fight those men off.”

“I couldn’t land a single kick on you,” I say, not even hiding my disappointment. Fuck him and his stupidly superior mega alpha stamina.

Raiden grins as my frown deepens.

“You’re damn competitive,” he says, bending down to offer his hand.

I debate whether to take the chance to land a punch on him at this moment.

Raiden’s grin broadens, disarming all my thoughts of cheating.

Scowling, I take the hand he offers.

He hauls me to my feet in one fluid, swift move.

“Come on,” he says, leading me away from the woods. “We’ve earned ourselves a drink.”

I realize he’s leading me toward the trainee dorms. My anxiety heightens at once.

I resist, digging my feet. “Why’re we going there?”

Raiden halts. “I want you all to myself,” he says, scratching the back of his head. “Julian will hog your attention if we go back to the house.”

Raiden’s several times bigger than me. He even demonstrated how much more powerful he was as well. Yet, his easy smile puts me at ease.

“What if I cause trouble?” I ask.

He frowns. “Why would you say that?”

“Those soldiers hate my guts.”

“They need to learn to respect you,” he says in a grim tone. “Winning and losing is part of any fight and battle. You can’t be too blinded by your ego to learn from your mistakes.”

I’m surprised by his words. He’s incredibly down-to-earth despite being so powerful.

Feeling better, I enter the mess hall with him.
