“I liked it,” I blurt out.

My eyes widen. Shit!

“Julian would be glad to have you in his corner,” says Raiden. “He hates how Damon has distanced himself from us. My brother stays away from home on most nights. Julian hates it. Since you’re staying with us, you’ll witness the tantrums soon enough.”

“Julian throws tantrums?”

Raiden grins. “Oh, you have no idea.”

I can’t help the smile spreading on my lips. Raiden has soothed the guilt stabbing at me.

“Damon will never hurt you,” Raiden says after a while. “It’s one of the Solveig Pack’s rules. We don’t hurt women as long we’re not facing them in battle.” A grim expression descends on his handsome face. “The men who hurt you haven’t been initiated into the pack yet. They’re still undergoing training but will have to face the consequences for breaking our rule. Their actions have resulted in their demotion. They won’t be joining the pack anytime soon.”

I think of Garcia and the men who ganged up to attack me. People like them don’t deserve to be part of a pack that forms a military unit meant to protect citizens.

“Let’s go back to the house,” Raiden says as he pushes his chair back. “Julian will start worrying if he can’t find you.”

“Julian thinks I’m making lunch.”

A deep chuckle bubbles up from his lips. “Can I have some too?”

“Sure!”

He lays a gentle hand on my back and steers me toward the doorway.

A couple of soldiers pass by us. The moment they gaze at us, Raiden snakes his arm around my shoulders, pulling me against him possessively.

Warmth spreads through me.

I can no longer deny how much I want to be close to Raiden too.

The sound of my phone’s alarm wakes me up. Blinking my heavy eyelids open, I feel around the mattress to locate the ringing phone.

Switching off the alarm, I realize that Julian is no longer at my side.

Glancing at my phone’s screen, I see it’s only eight A.M.

Surprised, I sit up.

Julian rarely wakes up before eight on weekdays. He’s always snoozing while I and my brothers get ready to go to work.

It’s Sunday and Julian has already disappeared from the bedroom.

Climbing off the bed, I throw on a gown and head out of the room.

The smell of French toasts wafts into my nostril as I head downstairs. Is Julian cooking?I wonder with a hint of surprise. It was a rare treat for my mate to make us breakfast on a Sunday morning.

I step inside the kitchen and a very different scene from what I imagined plays out before me.

Julian, Damon, and Raiden are at the table. They’re already in the middle of eating breakfast while a young woman is at the stove, flipping more toasts in the pan.

It takes a second for me to recognize Iris.

She’s dressed in a pink dress and is wearing Julian’s favorite apron. Her light brown hair tumbles past her shoulders and reaches her waist.
