It doesn’t take me long to clean the kitchen. There wasn’t much to do except to clear away the dishes from the table.

I’m surprised because on most weekends, it took me more than an hour to clean our kitchen.

Julian never bothers putting things in their places, so the kitchen is usually littered with misplaced bottles and jars of sauces and spices. It’s not unusual to find bits of onion and potato peels on the floor because he rarely runs a vacuum here.

I wonder how Julian could change his habits so drastically but a moment later, I realize it’s the effect of having Iris here.

She’s made a point to keep everything in its place. The kitchen has never looked so neat. Even the floor and countertops are scrubbed clean.

I grudgingly accept the fact she’s a hard worker. Julian wasn’t wrong in recognizing this about her.

I think about my brothers next.

Raiden’s probably impressed by her fighting skills. While he’s easier to read, I’m stumped by Damon’s interest in her.

Damon hasn’t been himself since that operation against a terrorist group three years ago. His relationship with Julian is fraying. What could he have seen in Iris to get attracted to her?

Only an omega has the charms to bewitch an alpha like Damon. How could an ordinary beta like Iris influence him enough to stand up for her?

Questions churn in my mind as I head upstairs to get dressed.

On the way to my room, I see Damon and Raiden coming my way. They’re both dressed in formal attire.

“You need to hurry,” says Damon. “Dad’s car just passed the gates.”

His unruly crimson locks have been smoothed by a liberal application of hair gel. The artificial smell is strong enough to overpower all other scents around him.

“I won’t take long,” I say. “You guys greet him first.”

“He’s going to want our leader greeting him,” says Raiden. “You know how he likes complaining about the tiniest of details.”

“Buy me time,” I say. “I’ll be there with Julian.”

Raiden and Damon walk past me while I hurry inside my room.

The sound of soft laughter reaches my ear the moment I step through the door. My gaze falls on the two people bent over a phone screen and chuckling.

“Why are you still here?” I bark.

I’m satisfied by the way Iris jumps. Her eyes widen the moment they fall on me. It’s good to know I scare her.

“Stay upstairs or I’ll kick you out of here,” I threaten, lashing her with my dominance.

Her shoulders sag as she stumbles back.

“Go to your room and stay there until you’re called,” I bark out the command.

Iris doesn’t even spare a glance at Julian as she flees the room.

“You’re such an ass,” Julian says, scorching me with his glare. “You enjoyed that, didn’t you?”

“Dad’s already here,” I say, trying to keep my annoyance in control. “I don’t want her messing up this meeting.”

“It’s a simple visit,” says Julian. “Not a military inspection. Geez. Just relax, Caleb.”

“You don’t understand. Everything must be perfect. I don’t want an unknown variable like Iris messing anything up.”
