An amused look comes over Dad’s face as he gazes at Julian and my brothers.

“Iris is a beta,” I say.

Julian scowls but I ignore him.

“Omegas are superior by nature when it comes to childbearing but let’s not forget that betas form the majority part of our population,” says Dad.

“An omega has more chances of birthing an alpha than a beta,” I challenge.

Dad nods. “True. In the end, it’s all the goddess’s wish and blessing. You can never be certain that mating with an omega will give you alpha sons and omega daughters.”

“Omegas have other qualities,” I say.

“Like what?” Julian asks with an amused grin.

“They manage the household better. They have the ability to keep a pack bound to them. They’re natural homemakers.”

“Has living with me taught you nothing? Julian asks with a chuckle. “I suck at all those things.”

“You weren’t trained to do this stuff as a kid,” I say.

“But Iris was,” he replies with a charming grin.

“Can you see her becoming a part of this pack?” Dad asks Julian directly.

Julian doesn’t even think before answering. “Yes.”

Dad looks toward Raiden and Damon. “What about you two?”

They nod.

Traitors.

“Keep an open mind, Caleb,” Dad says in a serious tone. “How about you bring her to the governor’s charity gala next weekend?”

“What?”

“Treat her to some nice clothes and an evening of good drinks and food,” Dad continues as if it’s not the most ridiculous idea. “See how she handles herself in a crowd like that.”

“I’ll make sure she enjoys herself,” Julian volunteers at once.

Raiden and Damon are grinning at each other like Christmas was announced earlier than they anticipated.

“I’d have liked to meet her today,” Dad says with a smile playing on his lips. “Maybe, next time.” He gets to his feet and moves toward the door.

“Won’t you stay for lunch?” I ask.

“Not today. Your mother has asked me to have lunch with her at The Oriental today.”

“That’s too bad,” says Julian. “You’d have loved Iris’s cooking.”

Dad pats him on the back. “You sound like you’re already in love with her.”

Julian flashes a bright smile that strikes me down. He was inlove?

“Caleb,” Dad calls, forcing me to look away from Julian. “Remember what I told you. Keep an open mind.”

“Yes, Dad.”
