“It won’t. Dr. Lawson gave me the right meds.”

He suddenly comes to a halt. “Meds?” He grabs a chunk of his hair and curses. “Shit. How could I forget? Did she give you a prescription? Let’s go back to the hospital and pick up the stuff you need. Thank fuck, I thought of it before driving us home.”

Caleb is panicking for my sake. I can’t believe how wrongly I judged him before.

I lay a hand on his arm.

He goes still at my touch.

“I don’t need anything,” I say. “Dr. Lawson gave me what I needed. I just need to stress less and I’ll be fine.”

“Are you sure?”

I nod.

He starts his nagging again, so I tighten my hold on the parcel and jog toward his car.

“Iris, wait up! Don’t run!”

“We need to hurry,” I say, reaching the car. “I don’t want the ice cream to melt.”

Caleb hurries over and unlocks the car.

Reminding him of the ice cream seems to have worked because he steps on the gas and drives toward Solveig Manor at top speed.

I expect to feel terrible about going back but surprisingly, I’m looking forward to seeing Julian, Raiden, and Damon. As the estate comes into view, I sit up eagerly and wait for the car to reach the manor.

I unbuckle my seatbelt the moment the car comes to a stop.

“Relax,” Caleb mutters as I go to open the door on my side. “Julian’s not going to disappear.”

“The ice cream,” I remind him before climbing out.

Light is pouring through the open doorway of the entrance hall.

A smile comes to my lips. I run inside, my eagerness to see Julian overcoming all other thoughts.

“Iris!” Julian’s voice halts me in my steps.

I look in the direction of his voice.

Julian is hurrying toward me. His beautiful face is masked by anxiety and concern. Reaching closer, he pulls me into a hug. “I was so worried about you.”

His warmth seeps in through the fabric of my clothes. I cling to him, greedily inhaling his delicious scent.

“Let me put the ice cream in the fridge and I’ll tell you everything,” I say in a smooshed voice because my face is pressed against his chest.

“Ice cream?” He steps back.

I hold up the parcel in my hand. “There’s brownie and fudge swirls as well ascrème bruléeand vanilla,” I say. “Got them for you from my favorite place.”

“You’re sick and you brought me ice cream?” he says in an incredulous tone. “I should be the one to do that for you.”

“She’s feeling better,” says Caleb.

“You,” Julian says, his nostrils flaring. “Why did you stop updating me over the past hour?”

“I was driving, darling,” Caleb says.
