Julian’s at the stove, mercilessly scraping a pan over the stove. Thick smoke rises from the burning food as he curses loudly.

“Let it be and check the toasts,” Raiden’s loud voice calls from the other side of the counter where he’s chopping fruit.

“What’s wrong with the toasts?” Julian hollers, still scraping desperately at the pan.

“This shit is literally toast,” says Damon from the corner. He’s standing by the toaster and holding up two very burnt pieces of bread.

“This is it,” says Caleb from the table. “I’m finishing my coffee and going to the trainee mess.”

Loud chuckles bubble from my lips as I watch these hulking alphas calling it quits over making breakfast.

Four pairs of eyes fall on me.

“Hi,” I say when they’re all staring at me. “Are you guys trying to blow up the kitchen? If so, I must protest. The kitchen’s my favorite part of this house.”

“You didn’t have to wake up so early,” Caleb says, walking toward me. “We wanted you to take the day off and rest.”

“Yeah,” says Julian who’s finally given up on saving the eggs. “We’ll bring you some breakfast when it’s ready.”

A snort escapes me. “Burnt toast and smoking eggs?”

“Breakfast for the champions, Wildcat,” says Damon with a wink. He grins while Julian scowls at him.

“How about I take over from here?” I say, walking toward the counter and peering down at the sink.

I think Julian started out with making fried eggs but then turned it into a scramble. He could’ve succeeded but I guess he added very little butter to the pan and didn’t lower the flames.

We’re going to need an army to clean up the burned mess but I keep my thoughts to myself. Opening a cabinet under the counter, I take out another pan.

“You shouldn’t be working hard when you’re not feeling fine,” Julian says in a grim tone. “The four of us can manage a few days without you.”

I shake my head. “Cooking isn’t a big deal. Besides, it helps me relax. That’s what the doc ordered.”

Julian moves closer and wraps his arms around me. “Thank you for saving my skin,” he mumbles so that the others can’t hear him.

I chuckle and greedily inhale his sweet, intoxicating scent.

“Well, at least we have chopped fruit,” says Damon, loudly chewing on pieces of apples that Raiden has cut.

“Why don’t you guys sit down and I’ll whip up some toast and eggs?” I say, heading to the counter to grab more eggs.

While everyone settles around the chair, I put bread slices into the toaster. Adjusting the settings, I go to the counter to whisk together a dozen eggs.

By the time I’m done whisking, four perfectly cooked toasts pop up from the toaster. Collecting them, I add another four slices in.

Within no time, I have toast and scrambled eggs on the table.

“You’re a goddess in the kitchen,” says Raiden, grinning at me. “Thank you for saving our poor souls.”

I chuckle and go to the fridge to bring out more butter and jars of jellies and marmalade.

“Why don’t you join us, Iris?” Caleb asks.

“Are you sure?” I ask, feeling nervous. “I don’t want to impose.”

His silvery eyes are warm as he stares at me. “I’m sorry about yesterday,” he says in a deep, gentle voice. “I was an ass.”

A smile comes to my lips while Damon suddenly launches himself at Caleb and wraps his arm in a choking hold around his neck.
