“Don’t pay any attention to them,” Julian mutters in my ear. Shifting slightly, he leans against Caleb while his arm remains wrapped around my waist.

Damon comes to stand on my other side while Raiden takes his position behind me. Damon wraps his fingers around my hand while Raiden rests his chin on my shoulder.

Cameras click and flash all around us, nearly blinding me.

“They know you’re ours,” Damon whispers in my ear, sending a tendril of heat through me.

My cheeks feel hot. A gentle throbbing erupts in my core.

It’s a good thing they are unable to pay me too much attention as we get swept toward the entrance hall by the guests coming from behind us. I take a deep breath and enter through the tall, vast gates.

My gaze sweeps all over the grand surroundings of the governor’s mansion. Exclusive paintings hang on the walls. Tall vases of bronze and silver occupy every corner. The subtle fragrance of fresh flowers pervades the air here.

Men in luxurious black tuxes fill the room. Beautiful women in lavish gowns move around me, their jewels glittering in the light of the grand chandelier overhead.

There are several celebrities among the politicians here. Familiar faces keep popping up among the crowd, heightening my excitement.

“Iris. Julian,” Caleb calls our names in a grim tone. “Be on your guard at all times.”

Julian rolls his eyes at him, making me snort. He chuckles at the unlady-like sound I make while Caleb frowns at him.

“Alpha Caleb,” an unfamiliar male voice calls out.

We turn around together and watch as a gray-haired elderly man steps before Caleb and shakes his hand.

“Mayor Wright wants to speak with you,” the stranger says. “He’s currently with Mayor McKinnon of Ravenwood. They’d both like a word.”

Caleb’s gaze flicks toward Julian. “Remember what I said.”

“Just go,” Julian says with a shake of his head.

Caleb steals a peck on his cheek before giving his attention to the newcomer. “Lead the way, Mr. Drummonds.”

As soon as he walks away, Raiden grabs Julian’s hand. “Dance?”

“Please,” Julian groans. “Let’s get out of here before more of those geezers come after you.”

Raiden chuckles. “Nah, they all want to talk to Caleb.”

“Lucky us,” says Damon. Turning toward me, he flashes me a grin. “Let’s see what Julian taught you, Wildcat.”

My cheeks heat at once. “You...you really want to dance with me?” I stammer while my inner omega is jumping with excitement.

He gives a slow nod while the predatory look in his amber eyes intensifies. Taking my hand, he leads me further inside the hall.

Julian and Raiden follow us as we head down a wide corridor. The sound of music and loud conversation reaches my ear as we move closer to another room.

Damon leads me inside a ballroom that’s even bigger than the entrance hall.

A live band plays on a raised dais that’s been set up in the center of the room. Couples take advantage of the wide floor space and dance around them. Valets walk around with trays of champagne andappetizers, serving the guests who’re gathered at the edge of the room.

Everything is just as amazing as Julian promised but my entire focus is pinned on the man beside me. Damon takes my hand and leads me toward the central area.

His arm wraps around my waist, pulling me closer to his hard body.

His scent envelopes me, drowning my senses. I try to focus on the music but every time I glance into Damon’s eyes, my mind floats away.

“Breathe, Iris,” he says in a deep, husky voice that trembles through me.
