“I just wanted to make certain you got to your cabin without stepping on a rattlesnake or a coyote trying to eat you.”

She raised her brows in disbelief. “The only coyote or snake I’m afraid of is standing right in front of me.”

He grimaced. “Cute.”

He’d deserved that and he couldn’t blame her.

“Besides, that walk is my time to glance at the stars and just enjoy the peaceful night sky. I don’t need any trouble. I don’t need any frustration. It’s a quiet time to reflect.”

She turned to leave and he called, “Watch out for the vampires.”

“Suck it,” she said.

And he couldn’t help but laugh. The woman had an attitude and unfortunately, he liked it. Unfortunately, he liked it way too much and it was going to be hard to resist.
