Ariana

Even though they were shocked to see me, my parents welcomed me with open arms when I arrived. I sobbed as they wrapped their arms around me. I needed their comfort; I had never felt so heartbroken.

After the hug from my parents, I settled in and told them what had happened. I also told them I would not be going back to California because the place had only hurt me and brought me pain. My parents told me they supported whatever I did.

“Oh, Dad, when are you going to stop telling that story?” I said at the breakfast table when Dad began recounting a story from my childhood where I’d dressed like a man because I didn't understand why men couldn’t wear female clothing and vice versa. “Never happening, pumpkin. I'll never stop,” Dad said.

“Ariana, there's someone here to see you.” Mom said as she joined us at the dining table. When I turned to see who it was, my smile faded. It was Katrina, the woman who had destroyed my life. “What in the name of Godare you doing here? Are you lost? You’re a long way from LA! Get out of my house!” I screeched in fury.

“Please, hear what she has to say,” Claudia said, emerging from behind her.

“Claudia?” My volume dropped in confusion. I wanted to scream again; but I remained silent. Claudia was my best friend, and I was certain she had a damn good reason for bringing this woman to my home.

“You have five minutes,” I said to Katrina.

Katrina apologized for the terrible names she’d called me when we’d met. She said that she and Brian had been seeing each other, but it was nothing serious, and Brian had always made that clear. She had thrown herself at him while he constantly reminded her they weren't a couple.

By then, it had been a month since I’d left California, and according to Katrina, Brian had been miserable ever since. She promised me there had been nothing between her and Brian, andl she’d just wanted to sabotage our relationship in hopes that he would come back to her. “But the plan backfired, Ariana. I’ve tried to make him fall in love with me, but every effort has failed. He's not attracted to me anymore. I’ve tried everything, but the heart wants what the heart wants,” Katrina said, sobbing. She added that she had come in person since shewas the one who’d ruined everything in the first place.

I looked around, and Claudia and my parents all nodded to indicate that I should forgive Brian; the man wasn’t even here, and I felt sorry for him.

“Well, why are you the one apologizing and not him?” I asked.

“She offered to help since she messed everything up,” Brian said once he’d entered the house; he’d been listening all along. “I'm so sorry, Ariana. I should have told you about her.”

“Brian?” I said in shock and excitement.

“I'm sorry, Ariana. I love you so much. I’m miserable without you,” Brian said, falling to both knees.

“Please stand up, Brian. I forgive you,” I said, sobbing, as I tried to pull Brian up. Brian raised one knee from the ground, reached into his jacket, and brought out a limited-edition Chris Aire diamond ring. I couldn’t believe it!

My mom couldn't believe it.

My dad was overwhelmed.

Claudia was stunned.

“Marry me, Ariana. Save me from a miserable life without you. Build an empire with me, and a family. Let's make beautiful babiestogether,” Brian said.

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” I said, channeling my inner Daniel Bryan. “I'll marry you,” I said as I took the ring, pulled my man up, and planted a passionate kiss on him while everyone cheered us on.
