“Whatever shit you’re pulling won’t work,” he sneers. I almost regretted fucking with Cohen because he’s always been the one who could see things a little deeper than the rest. He was the first to take a look at the scenario with Ren and not give a single fuck because he knew deep down he had me—as much of me as I could give him at least. Now I just want to punch his beautiful face. I refuse to let myself regret anything that’s coming.

The walk to Headmistress Sheldon’s office is thankfully quick because the tension between everyone is suffocating. “You all didn’t have to come with us, I’m sure Red and I are perfectly fine to get along long enough to survive a trip to the office.” I say, turning to look at the extra three men following behind us.

“Where you go I go amore,” Ren says, smiling widely at the grumbling of the other three that follows.

“There’s not a chance in hell you aren’t pulling something here, and we’ll be here to back ourbrotherup,” Matteo growls.

I can feel the jab to Ren as deeply as if it were meant for me, though neither myself, nor Ren give any outward recognition to the statement. I look around at the guys who will forever be a part of me and find alternating levels of indifference staring back at me. These guys shield themselves well, I’ll give them that.

“Well, alright then. Poor Nancy has her work cut out for her today,” I murmur.

“Only if you keep trying to pretend your dick is bigger than ours,” Noah grumbles back.

“Aw baby, don’t you know that I don’t need to measure my dick to know it’s bigger than yours? Powerful women don’t need to flaunt their big dick energy to know it’s there. I can’t help it if you feel like you’ll never measure up,” I quip, knowing that I’ve shut them up good and well when the brooding silence returns and tries to suffocate us all.

Walking past reception, we don’t bother with the standard wait to be seen nonsense and walk into Nancy’s office. She was clearly expecting that though because she just smiles broadly at me and then turns a cool, professional gaze to the guys behind me.

“Hello students, I’m afraid I’ll have to ask a few of you to step outside,” she greets.

“It’s alright Nancy. They’re welcome to stay. Cohen and I have no secrets from the rest of them.” I smile.

Though it’s quickly wiped from my face when the three douche nozzles all laugh and Matteo responds with a lightning fast remark. “That's not exactly true, is itYour Highness.” He glares scathingly at me before turning a pointed look to Nancy. “Apologies Headmistress Sheldon, it’s just that this girl carries more secrets than the goddamn CIA. Those who try to get close to her are shit out of luck in trying to crack her code.”

“Yeah, well, sometimes keeping secrets keeps people safe,” I argue.

“Don’t be obtuse. Secrets ruin everything. We’re living proof of it. Excuse me for not finding respect for people who wield them like weapons,” he fights back.

“Alright, that’s enough.” Nancy claps her hands to garner our attention. “I’ll not have any bickering in my office and to be blunt, we have more serious matters to attend to. Whoever is choosing to stay can stay, otherwise I urge you to leave now so as to not miss any classes,” she states, fully knowing that none of these guys give a damn about missing a few classes.

“What’s all this about, if you don’t mind my asking?” Cohen asks gently, his voice deceptively calm as his mind works over the multiple outcomes of what’s to come.

His tone is much softer than it would be if he were speaking to me. I love that he respects people and the positions they hold even when he knows he could ruin them with the few clicks of his keyboard. If I weren’t so pissed at him, I’d be thrilled at the quiet power he holds. I’d almost be worried about Nancy when we’re finished here, but I won’t let anything happen to her after all the loyalty she’s shown me. SB’s on standby as well on the off chance things take a turn for the worse.

“I’m surprised you’d even bother to ask, Mr. Beckett. Apologies, but I’ll be blunt. As your peers have made abundantly clear, lies and deceit aren’t welcome in this space. I’d appreciate your cooperation as we unravel the truth. Do you or do you not have the knowledge, resources, and ability to hack the school’s database?”

“I don’t—”

“Please choose your words wisely, young man.”

“I do. However, I haven’t the slightest idea as to why it would matter. There’s no need for me to infiltrate the school’s system.”

“I’d agree with you. There’s absolutely no reason that you should do such things, and yet it would appear that all of Alessandra’s grades have been tampered with and you are the only one in this school with both the motive and means to do so,” she states, leaving no room for argument. That doesn’t stop him from trying though.

“I don’t have any reason to mess with Q’s grades, and I’m not the only person capable of doing so.”

“When she first moved here, did you or did you not show blatant distaste for Alessandra?”

“Yes.”

“And just last week, you and your friends were heard telling her that she needed to leave the school or you’d make her leave the school. Is that correct?”

“Yes, but—”

“There are no buts in this matter, Mr. Beckett. In fact, these are grounds for expulsion and I’d be hard pressed not to find fault in your group of friends as well. It’s a known fact that you, Mr. Bailey, and Mr. DeLuca work as a unit.”

“There’s no reason for any of that. You can have your own IT team trace the IP address and link you to the person responsible for altering her grades. I can guarantee you won’t find me at the end of your goose chase. I may not want her here but tampering with her grades is beneath me. She’s not important enough to waste my time on.”

“I’ve already had our team look into it, and they found the source linked to your school issued computer.”
