Callan clenched his jaw and walked to his desk. “It’s a long fucking story that I can’t talk about in school. There are people here that’re in on it too. I’ve been trying to stop it since I found out about it.”

“Wow,” I said sarcastically, walking back toward the door to leave. I could’ve been finishing lunch with Vera and relaxing for once. Not listening to this dickhead. “Great information. This was a really amazing use of my time.”

Before I could make it to the door, he grabbed my elbow. “I’m not finished.”

“Well, this shit isn’t my fault!” I shouted, ripping myself out of his hold. “You’re connected with the mob. Do something about it. Tell them not to blame me because they’re not going to win against my father’s lawyers.”

“They’ll eliminate your father’s lawyers,” Callan said in a hushed tone. “This shit is serious. I’m doing everything in my power to stop this.”

“Well, try fucking harder.”

Cry me a fucking river that some annoying asshole had died. All she did was ruin my fucking life and show up at my house, unannounced, because she was jealous that I gave another girl my attention. She’d tried to ruin my life when she was alive, and she wasstilldoing it.

This wasn’t fair. None of this was fucking fair.

“They made it seem like a suicide. Sent text messages from her phone beforehand to atherapist.Made her seem crazier than she was,” Callan started, leaning against the whiteboard and crossing his arms. “Her parents suspected that it wasn’t a suicide, so the mob is scrambling.”

“So, they need someone to fucking blame it on,” I clarified.

“And because you had to fuck her—”

“That’s all that happened between us,” I said through gritted teeth. “Nothing more.”

“Yeah, but you were the only guy at this school that people saw her with.”

“Well, tell them to blame it on my fucking father and mother. Not me. I didn’t do shit.”

“If I try to avert the blame away from you to your parents, your father is going to give me fucking hell,” Callan said. “Not something I want to deal with right now. I have too many other people to keep safe and away from this.”

“Like Sakura?”

He grimaced and looked over through hooded eyes. “Yes.”

“What, you guys are actually a thing now?”

“That’s not any of your business.”

“Not my business until I tell everyone you’re fucking a student.”

After balling his hands into fists on top of the desk, he drew his tongue across his teeth, looking pissed the fuck off. And he should be because I didn’t want to have to hang this over his head any more than he wanted me to do so.

“Take care of this,Uncle.”

ChapterSixty-Four

VERA

After school, I leaned against Blaise’s car and edited a chapter of my new untitled book on my phone while I waited for him. I didn’t want to pull out the MacBook that Blaise had gotten me here; I’d wait until I got home for that.

“Fucking finally get to see you,” Blaise said, walking toward me and unlocking his car.

I quickly shoved my phone into my pocket, cheeks flushing, and opened the passenger door. Before I could slide into it, Blaise grabbed my wrist and pulled me back, slipping into the seat himself. He pulled me into his lap and shut the door behind me.

“You don’t like PDA yet, but, God”—he grunted—“I’ve been thinking about you all day.”

Warmth exploded in my core, and I gently ground my hips against his as I straddled his waist. He was already hard, his dick bulging against the front of his pants. I sank my hand between our bodies and stroked him.

At least Blaise had tinted windows.
