I pull out my phone and check, but there are no calls, no messages. I try her number, but it goes straight to voicemail.

I turn back to Avery. “When was this?” I demand.

Her eyes widen. “Umm, I don’t know, about noon?”

“And where did she go after that?” I get to my feet.

“I don’t know.” Avery shrugs. “I’m sorry, I just passed her in the hallway. That’s it.”

Fuck.

“What’s wrong?” Avery asks, reading my mind.

I shake my head. “I don’t know, but something’s not right. It doesn’t make sense. If Lily didn’t get on that flight, then where is she?”

And why isn’t she answering her phone?

“Call Lily,” I order Avery. “Maybe she’s just ignoring me.”

She doesn’t hesitate or waste time asking questions. Turning on the speakerphone, she holds the phone out so I can hear it ring. When the voicemail picks up, I let out a frustrated growl, running my hand through my hair.

“What’s going on, boss?” Chase asks, sauntering over to us.

“I don’t know where Lily is.” I reply shortly. “She didn’t get on her flight, nobody’s seen her since yesterday.”

“Oh shit,” his eyes widen. “You think something’s happened? Someone’s taken her?”

“I don’t know what to think,” I reply, but the idea he suggests makes my blood run cold.

Taken…

“Why don’t you track her phone?” Chase suggests.

I exhale. “Great idea.” I pull up the tracking app I had installed on her cellphone, back when she was ready to bolt any chance she got. I’d forgotten I even had it, we’re so far past that, but now I’m glad I took the precaution.

“What does it say?” Chase says, crowding in to look. It takes a moment to load the location of Lily’s iPhone, but when I see the pin on the map on-screen, my whole world stops.

“Fuck.”

“Where is it?” Avery asks.

“Brooklyn. East side.” I answer shortly.

“Kovack headquarters.” Chase translates. “Motherfuckers. They’ve got her.”

I hear a roaring sound. My heart pounding in my ears.

I did this. I trusted people I shouldn’t have. I sent her away and put her in danger. And now…

Now…

Fuck.

If I’d kept her by my side, she wouldn’t have been alone. The Kovacks wouldn’t have had the opportunity to take her. To do… Whatever they’re doing.

Is she hurt? Scared?

Is she even still breathing?
