I never imagined having a family like this, full of love and happiness. Dagda now spends his days following Tobias around wherever he goes, eating scraps of food his best friend will drop.

Juniper and Tobias moved in with me over the summer after I proposed. I had planted thousands of sunflower seeds in a small section of my yard, creating a field of flowers. Tobias helped me make a small path to the middle, where we both waited for her. We left little clues all over the house so she would find the path.

When she stepped inside, I could see the tears in her eyes already. Tobias and I waited on one knee as she came running over, nodding her head. I involved him in everything I planned. Even went as far as asking Tobias’s permission to marry his mom.

As I walk through our yard, I can’t help but laugh at when he caught me sleeping over for the first time.

Juniper and I had woken up to Tobias and Dagda standing in the doorway of her bedroom….

She jumps out of bed, clutching the blanket to her body.

“Oh god! Tobias!”

I chuckle as Tobias looks between us, his hand on Dagda’s head.

“You guys gonna make some breakfast? Dagda and me are hungry.”

I nod. “Yeah, wee man. Go ahead and put some cartoons on and I’ll make you some pancakes.”

The kid smiles and hops downstairs, dog in tow as Juniper slides to the ground, sheet wrapped around her.

“Oh, my god. Oh god, Cody!”

Laughing, I kneel and gently take her face in my hands. “Baby, it’s gonna be fine. He didn’t see anything. Let’s get up and go make breakfast. Okay?”

She nods as I help her up. Juniper throws on a sundress and heads downstairs. I find my shorts and shirt, throwing them on as I follow.

Juniper is already in the kitchen cooking as I come over to help. Tobias and Dagda are lost in Saturday morning cartoons as we get to work. Finishing up, I bring everything to the table as Juniper gets Tobias.

Sitting down, Juniper clears her throat. “Hey, Tobs? Can we have a little chat?”

“About you and Mister Cody?”

She nods. “Yeah. Well… we, uh. Cody and I…”

I take her hand in mine and smile. “Your mom and I like each other very much. To be honest, wee man, I love your mom.” I look over to see tears in Juniper’s eyes. “I don’t want to ever make you upset and I’m sorry we didn’t tell you earlier. So if you don’t want me to have sleepovers, you just say the word and I’ll stop.”

Tobias looks between the two of us, then giggles. “I like it. I like it a lot! But…”

Juniper’s shoulders sag as she squeezes my hand.

“If you come over, Dagda has to be with you. Always.”

I chuckle as Juniper breathes a sigh of relief. “You got it, buddy. This is all on your terms, Tobs.”

Laughing at the memory, I look up to see the two of them getting out of the car. We’re having a small get together Juniper planned withournew friends. Yes, even I have friends now, thanks to Juniper.

I lean against the garage, just enjoying watching my beautiful future wife and son laughing as they jump in leaf piles.

Walking over, I scoop Tobias in my arms as he giggles. I lean down and place a soft kiss on Juniper’s lips.

“Hey, gorgeous. Get everything you need at the store?”

She grins up at me. “I did. Madilyn is bringing over dessert and Gretchen will bring some sides.”

I look over to see a wagon being pulled up our driveway by a little blonde thing; Madilyn. Juniper currently rents out her home to Mads. She moved here over the summer just as Juniper was moving into my home.

She has twin girls, Indigo and Isla, and accepted a teaching position at the elementary school. Madilyn is a great mom and I’m so glad she and Juniper became friends.
