CHAPTER ONE
Kimber
“I’m pregnant,” Kimber Blackheart told her four closest friends.
All four ladies came to a halt in the kitchen at the cabin and blinked at her. Hailey placed a hand on her round belly. “How?”
“You’re pregnant with my brother’s twins. I’m quite sure you know how that happened,” Kimber replied.
“Okay, since Mel and Jenny both have kids and I am pregnant, as you know, the question is when?” Cammie asked, with a sparkle to her green eyes.
Right. Time to come clean.
“Okay, remember when we went out for the girl’s night to celebrate Cammie and Rourke’s engagement?” Kimber began.
“No, I stayed home and babysat Johanna and Shaun, so Mel and Jenny could go, and the guys could do their thing,” Kimber reminded. “That was the night Cammie realized she was pregnant.”
“Why do men insist on showering in cologne?” Cammie inquired in all sincerity. “God, just thinking about it makes me want to barf.”
“No clue why they do it,” Kimber replied. “Then again, we’re shifters, so our sense of smell is better than most. Yours even more so now that you're pregnant.”
“It’s nasty, even for us humans,” Jenny chimed in, while Mel and Hailey nodded in agreement. “So, as I recall, Mel and I took Cammie home, and you stayed at the club.”
“Right, and not to sound like a tramp, that’s when it happened,” Kimber grinned, unable to control her smile or the flutters n her stomach just at the mere thought of him. “Male wolf testosterone, and he like me, was having a real good time. Not to mention staying in the hotel where the club was. “Believe me when I say, the man was built for sin, and wow did we have sex, like repeatedly for hours. Then the following morning, we hung out and had dinner, then more sex. It was a small miracle I could walk. The next morning is when I left him just before the sun came up.”
“Sounds delicious,” Mel giggled.
“It was, only I never caught his last name, or even where he’s from, though he had a European accent,” Kimber added. “Even now, just thinking about it makes my panties wet.”
“And you’re oversharing again,” Hailey laughed and scrunched her nose.
“You spent over twenty-four hours with a guy and didn’t get the last name?” Hailey inquired with a lift of brows.
“So, what’s the problem?” Jenny sighed. “You’re having a baby, aren’t you excited?”
Now came the tricky part.
“Yes, I am actually, and unlike Cammie and Hailey, I haven’t been sick at all.”
“I always knew you were a bitch,” Cammie snickered, then smiled. “It’s a good thing, Hailey, and I love you,” she added.
Mel exchanged a glance with Jenny and Hailey, then met Kimber’s gaze. “So, do your parents know?”
Kimber groaned. “No, and neither does Jagger. You know how protective he can be.”
The women all nodded. “Yes,” Jenny stated. “All of them are,” she reminded, referring to Jagger’s three best friends Xavier Kirsch and the twins Nicco and Rourke Lombardi. All lawyers, shifters and the loves of the women Kimber now confided in.
“Wait!” Jenny exclaimed. “You’re telling us and haven’t told your family?”
Kimber shrugged. “I love you, and look at you as sisters, so I wanted your thoughts before I opened that can of worms,”
“Uh, that’s all fine and dandy. However, I can’t keep secrets from Xavier, and Hailey is the worst liar going,” Mel reminded the room.
“I’m honest to a flaw,” Hailey agreed. “What am I going to do if Jagger corners me and does his cross-examination thing?”
Cammie blinked at Kimber. “I’m with Hailey on this, Rourke has worked with law enforcement, and he has the whole interrogation thing down to a science.”
This wasn’t helping.
