“That is very kind of you, but I’m happy to help,” David told them. “I have locked the elevators. They can’t come up to this floor; however, they can go down.” He turned to Kimber. “I’ve been informed you are a wolf shifter, however in your condition, if things get out of hand. I want you to lock yourself in the elevator and hit the elevator button to go down and once it moves, hit the emergency stop button. It will be the safest place for you.”
“He’s right,” Rourke agreed. “My brother and I are multi-shifters. I usually shift into a lion, unless I’m, playing the panda game with my niece and nephew.”
“I usually shift to a wolf,” Nicco supplied.
“You shift into a panda to play with the kids?” Mikhail asked, lifting his brows. “I have a lot of little cousins who would worship you if you were a panda for them.” He then turned to Kimber. “I’m starting to like your family a lot.”
Kimber couldn’t help but smile. “They are pretty terrific,” she admitted. “Hailey took some pictures. I’d love for you to see them.”
“Let’s survive this, and Cammie and I will come for a visit,” Rourke told him with a smile.
Kimber liked that idea but remained quiet.
“Sergio said there are two dire wolves on the mountain. How many do you think are here?” David asked.
“Three,” Luke answered. “Not only are they large, but they are also ferocious, and when they attack, they go for the kill.” He paused, then continued. “One of the assailants has been spotted on the casino floor.”
“Security went to remove him, and he vanished,” David supplied before continuing. “And my security team has the photos of five, four men and a woman. Any idea which two are on the mountain?” David asked.
“No,” Nicco answered. “How many officers did the LVMPD send?”
“Eight, four of which are shifters. Two wolves, another tiger—Jared, who’s my older cousin, and his best friend a grizzly shifter.” David explained. “Jared is running point for the police department and thought this was the safest course of action. My cousin wanted fighters. After all, we’re dealing with foreign royalty.”
Kimber’s stomach rolled.
She removed herself from the chair and crossed the floor to Mikhail. He immediately wrapped a protective arm around her. “Things will be fine,” he promised. “We have plenty of back-ups.”
Mikhail met David’s gaze. “Is your cousin from the same grandmother?”
David nodded and smiled. “Yes, from my mother and aunt’s side. Nonna is a tiger shifter, as are our mothers. We get it from no one strange. ” He cleared his throat. “Jared has also arranged for medics and ambulances, shifter friendly on standby.”
“Your service to the throne of Barrastu is appreciated and will not go unrecognized,” Mikhail told him, then turned to Kimber.
“There it is,” Kimber smiled despite the mild anxiety. “You sounded very regal just now and showed everyone in this room what a good man you are.” Tears filled her eyes, and she knew her pregnancy hormones were getting the better of her. “Something I already knew.”
He cupped her face gently. “I don’t want to lose you.”
“I don’t want to lose you either,” she replied before she stretched up and kissed his lips.
A slam of a door echoed from the hallway.
“Is there anyone in the other suite?” David asked quietly.
“No,” Jagger replied.
“Then someone just entered the floor through the fire escape,” he informed the group. “Are any of the troublemakers tech-savvy?”
“Suzette’s brother. The one a year older than her,” Mikhail explained. “Why?”
A bleak expression etched on David’s handsome face. “Because the only way to enter is with a key card. They are designed to be exited but not entered.”
A loud crash echoed from down the hallway. Both David and Rourke pulled their guns.
Kimber’s stomach started to hurt, and her heart began to race.
The Saracens had just declared war.
