“Arch?” A soft whisper came as he brushed against someone.

He knew that voice.

“Yeah.” He whispered and slid in behind her.

“Couldn’t find a better hiding spot?” He could barely see her profile in the dark.

“I think we both know this was the best spot.” He whispered closer to her ear.

Jame’s voice called out, and the laughter started getting closer as he found people and they would no doubt attempt to run away. Tabitha leaned in closer. As if they could melt together and into the wall. The pair of them remained quiet and got closer.

His hand accidentally brushed across her ass, and then he felt her stiffen against him. Neither of them said a word as he moved his hand back down. He breathed her in, then grabbed a handful. It’d been too tempting. He wanted to see how she would react.

He moved his hands to her hips and pulled her flush against him. She’d be able to feel him hardening behind her. Minutes passed as others had their turns seeking.

The two of them never moved from their hiding spot. They stayed pressed against one another.

Not saying a word.

Long after the game ended, and they returned to the others, they kept a little more distance. Never repeating to anyone about that moment in time. Never bringing it back up with each other either.

He wished he would’ve tried more.

He should’ve made a move.

A lasting one.

CHAPTER11

TABITHA

She was avoiding him.

It was entirely possible they were avoiding one another at this point.

Tabitha had been on edge since the kitchen incident the day before. Every nerve across her skin was on alert. What should’ve been a simple oops apology moment, perhaps filled with laughter, was actually seconds of him pressed against her and needing a change of underwear.

He shouldn’t have this effect on her. It had been years since she crushed on him.

All she wanted was to add some flavor to her water. Something to mix it up. She couldn’t focus on work since that moment, and there were companies waiting for her to get back to them with video concepts.

She didn’t want things to be weird between her and Archie. It was already difficult with him being here. She never wanted him to know her struggles. It was easier when they were young and didn’t have adult responsibilities and drama.

Tabitha closed the makeup palette she had opened and stared at her reflection in the lit-up mirror before her. She was too wired to focus. It had been a couple weeks since she’d used her home gym and the doctor didn’t say she couldn’t do anything. She was cleared to resume activities when she was discharged from the hospital. All her scans came back normal, regardless of how she felt at the time.

Mostly damaged.

All in her head.

She went into her PR package closet and grabbed the latest from one of her favorite fitness companies, Buff Nerds. She loved their sports bras with matching leggings and shorts, and quirky tank tops. It would probably do her good to get in a leg workout and snap some pictures to share for the company.

Her phone was already synced to the speaker system in her gym, so she pulled up her favorite girl power playlist and hit play. She grabbed a glute band from the shelf and moved to the wall of mirrors to snap a few pictures, and then started warming up.

It took her longer than usual to get in the zone and she wasn’t hitting the weights as high as usual, but it still felt good to push her muscles and tire her body.

She moved between her cable machine to her squat rack and back again. Kickbacks, squats, deadlifts, and everything in between. She was determined to get back in shape. To finish it off, she lowered the bar on the rack, adjusting the plates on the sides and moved into position.

She had a love hate relationship with hip thrusts. It always felt awkward, but she loved the workout it gave her ass. She was thankful she didn’t have to do this in a public gym. She couldn’t imagine how people did it there. They probably prayed others wouldn’t stare or make eye contact as they essentially humped the air.
